Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Labor is equally expensive in Europe - lots less staffing, especially in higher income countries (i.e. Nordic trains already had essentially fast food over dining cars in the 80's on some routes). I think those contrasting endcaps are very trendy right now in International livery design - have...

Rail service and travel by rail in India and Bangladesh

Yes, it does say sector but got vector into my head (either way, could still be a portal). I assume that there is a salt lake nearby - too lazy to google and then get stuck in a Wikipedia loop today...

Chicago Metra Electric District (MED) speed increases?

I'm glad he pushed them - it's frustrating going slower than traffic on LSD on the long stationless stretch between Hyde Park and Downtown.

Rail service and travel by rail in India and Bangladesh

I love that the direction is "Salt Lake Vector" - does that connect through a worm-hole to Utah somehow (haha)?

Chicago Metra Electric District (MED) speed increases?

Came across this article - from an advocacy group - about MED getting a pretty massive speed increase at some point in the future. I know that when the new Highliners came online a few years back, one of the supposed advantages was better braking which would increase speeds, but I don't know...

Viewing a country across a border during a train ride

The Tim Traveller did a video about it's current state a few years ago.

Viewing a country across a border during a train ride

If there was still active rail on it, the Carrizo Gorge.... And the tunnel to Canada from Michigan up in Huron to Sarnia.

    Scenic Rail Routes in Europe

I came across a reference last week (via a Tim Traveler video as a matter of fact) that a commission recommended that Britain adopt - as quickly as possible, iirc - the metric system way back in like the 19th C but they needless to say, never did.

    Britain's most unique trains?

Oh, this is the spring powered train*, isn't it? *to put it simply...

City of New Orleans (train) discussion

I thought I saw the CONO heading north around 1:30 on Wednesday afternoon through the south side (assuming since it was Superliners) - I thought it was earlier, typically, than that.

Gateway Project/New York Penn Station capacity improvement

Probably not much new, but it is a newer article: https://tunnellingjournal.com/delivery-partners-selected-hudson-tunnel-project/

Metra to convert locomotives to battery power

I know I'm responding to some old comments (and after my last comment) regarding Norway: 1. Norway has a strong electrical grid. 2. While they did produce an electric car recently - the Th!nk (and historically there was a car named the Troll as well as locally produced Dodge and, iirc, Fords) -...

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

This seems like a situation where a lot of people would order food through like DoorDash or UberEats.

    DeKalb pushing for Metra expansion?

I've seen scuttlebutt elsewhere on the intertubes that the bus ridership is not actually very high on routes that couldawoulda be covered by a Metra route, but that's hearsay at this point. Would be a shame if it were true though.

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

If it was their story reel it may already be gone since they only last a short time on Instagram to start with.

    Cities without Amtrak service

I DEMAND Amtrak service to Hawaii within four years! (it can be via the SSAmtrak)

Can Private Railroads operate passenger service without government help?

And they seem to be both reopening old stations and creating new ones at the rate of a couple each year.

    DeKalb pushing for Metra expansion?

Apparently the bus service from DeKalb to Elburn is doing exceptionally well. Hopefully another push for service expansion. We really should combine this thread and the other DeKalb thread.

Trains and transit in Costa Rica

I knew Costa Rica was small, but I didn't realize (that) it was that small!
