    Covid Mask Mandate for Transportation

Technically the policy does require masks in rooms at all times, whether door/curtain is closed, and even when sleeping. In practicality….. The way it was explained to us was that the TSA says a sleeper is still public transit, thus the mask mandate applies at all times. Good luck taking a...

    Autotrain Services Drastically Cut?

That’s why we rarely see OBS transfer to the AT. If what I’ve heard is true however, OBS can transfer from the AT to elsewhere in the system and maintain their seniority. I’ve never really looked in to it, but I suppose I could look at the seniority roster next week when I’m back in the crew...

WSDOT reports on Point Defiance Bypass resumption and new trainsets for Cascades service

Annnd I’ll be the first (revenue) train north through there, as the news release mentions.

Amtrak potential service reduction due to staff shortage

It won’t be tri-weekly across the board. I have be heard the proposals for two routes, and it will be looked at on each route. Can I ask what station you’re based out of? There’s been no determination made this far, and it has been nothing but scare tactics thus far. They will be looking...

    120V AC Power Question (Again)

This is an understatement. Blah blah blah….we blew a transformer in the yard, and it resulted in several tracks losing ground power, as well as the commissary (with the walking refrigerator and freezer). The (temporary) solution? Hook up a P42 to the system! So yeah, the real limiting factor...

    Amtrak Status Maps Down?

I just want to clarify this, because it’s driving me. The times are not updated by station services (how would that work with so many stops being unstaffed?). They are updated by the conductor of the train, and there are many more pressing duties, so sometimes it happens that the...

    Catching the train in Seattle

Similar story for what convinced my husband and I to move to Vancouver, from eastern Canada/New England.

Canadian border reopening; how soon will international railrestored?

I don’t agree with this decision, but I have been told that the Cascades will be waiting, so all three routes can resume on the same day. There’s still no firm date, however. The most realistic date I heard was by Thanksgiving, but the goal post has been moved. The crew base must be given 21...

    Amtrak Transportation voucher

I would presume a refund voucher does not have that limitation. Just like my goodwill gesture travel vouchers with Delta are non-transferable, while my vouchers from canceled reservations are transferable. And it makes sense to me why.

    Autotrain Services Drastically Cut?

    During Covid, apparently so.

    Autotrain Services Drastically Cut?

New pillows, sheets, blankets. Have the amenity kits become in stock and available for use? Superliner sleeper are also undergoing refurbishment, as well as the coaches and lounges. Covid set everyone back. I’m not really sure what you were expecting?

    Questions about becoming OBS Trainee

I don't believe there's anyone from MIA on this website. So let me respond based off what I know from report times for other long distance trains, and layovers. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The roundtrip for...

    Autotrain Services Drastically Cut?

This is quite interesting to me…because I’ve never heard anything of the sort. The crew shortage has been since day 1 of resuming daily service, after the buyouts, retirements, and employees finding work elsewhere. While there are some employees who are gripping any the vaccine mandate, I have...

    Autotrain Services Drastically Cut?

That part of the operation has already been outsourced to contractors.

It is a scheduled stop for 94, yes.

Do major airline disruptions ever affect Amtrak?

One night I was working train 66 towards Boston, and was expecting to top out with less than 45 people onboard around Philly. Well…we get to BWI Airport and picked up just over 200 people. The airport shut down due to snow, and many people were trying to get back to Boston. But as Cal said...

    Heartland Flyer Versus Car Carrier

I’m defining “haphazardly” walking as walking without having three points of contact, and making sure to maintain a stronger grip when’s the brakes dumped. And we only hit an unoccupied pickup truck. I can only imagine the feeling of hitting a loaded auto carrier would be much rougher. Also...

    Heartland Flyer Versus Car Carrier

I’ve been in 2 on the Talgos, including the one that derailed one of the series 8s last month, and I assure you there is a jolt.

    Heartland Flyer Versus Car Carrier

What do you think the striking of a vehicle at track speed is like? Depending on the size of the vehicle, it still sends a jolt through the train, and I guarantee you that this strike would be enough to send people to the floor of they are walking haphazardly. Then when you factor in the...
