    Ray Suarez Tweets About NEC

It doesn’t matter if there is a fatal trespasser strike, many passengers view any sort of delay as only Amtrak’s fault. Just reexperienced this exact scenario last Friday, unfortunately. Just to note, there’d be no debris left behind from a vehicle, as there are no grade crossings between the...

    Northeast Regional Liveblog 10/13/21

Metropark? Seriously..? I guess things could be worse, but that’s certainly not supposed to be.

Amtrak System Sampler Reviews and Impressions - Fall 2021

As a single traveller, I agree with you. I like the flexibility of being able to move and have a seat pair to myself. Plus, on the occasions I need to be a ticketed passenger, 99% of the time I sit in the Cafe anyway. If I had an assigned seat, this could prevent a couple from sitting...

    Heartland Flyer Versus Car Carrier

The bigger concern for me would be if it wasn’t the snack/coach, since there’s already such limited quantities out in the wild.

    Checking Train Status

Oh I use it for the same reasons as well. I’ve also used it to see at a quick glance where neighbouring trains are, to judge if I have enough time to coordinate stealing supplies from them (this mostly applies to the Builder, but I have done this even last week on the Cascades).

Amtrak System Sampler Reviews and Impressions - Fall 2021

Better buckle in, because the plan has been for all of the NEC to go to assigned seats. Not sure if it’s supposed to roll out to other trains or not.

    Heartland Flyer Versus Car Carrier

I’ve seen pictures from on-site, and though the engine nose is pretty messed, it was a very VERY minor derailment. Could’ve been so much worse. Another Superliner coach is out of service though, can you tell you that much.

    NE Regional - Roanoke question

I’m not sure how their jobs work down there. It’s possible one of them may have been “assisting” AKA deadheading to pickup another train. They’d almost certainly have to pay, assuming that they continue getting the $6 voucher, as it used to be accepted in either the diner or Cafe. And...

What free amenities are given or are available for sleeper passengers?

It is only available in the sleeper during the morning hours. After that, you may get some from either the diner or Cafe, as part of your unlimited nonalcoholic beverage amenity.

    NE Regional - Roanoke question

On the flip side…I’d rather be in Business class on a Regional, where the other riders are generally quieter, as opposed to a split Cafe car where you get to hear doors slamming all day along with loud patrons sitting at the tables.

What free amenities are given or are available for sleeper passengers?

There are no hidden free amenities, just what it is advertised. Bottled water, toiletries, linens, bedding, and coat hangers are the only things available. Occasionally an attendant may be able to get you a bucket of ice, that’s about it. In addition to the coffee station during morning...

    Heartland Flyer Versus Car Carrier

I really don’t think that’s a term used anymore, but… Also, the railroads don’t publicize the availability to trespass and shunt the signals due to vandalism, and yet here it is now found on the internet….Doing the legal thing of calling the dispatcher would be much more ideal.

    NE Regional - Roanoke question

As far as the soft product goes, it’s not that inconsistent…. You will always have to go retrieve the unlimited beverages yourself, using your ticket, nothing else. This policy covers all of the NER (including Vermonter, Maple Leaf, Palmetto, etc.), Chicago hub services, and the Lake Shore...

    Checking Train Status

Indeed, thank you for this website. Makes it easy for me to fill out my timesheets to ensure I reduce the correct pay for late trains. ;)

Amtrak System Sampler Reviews and Impressions - Fall 2021

Without being able to easily get up from your seat, the added value may not be inherently known. The two best perks (at least of NER Regional service) is unlimited nonalcoholic beverages, and “better” clientele in the car (usually more respectful, no kids, and quiet). If you’re still going to...

    One adult beverage “per trip”?

Come ride the Cascades instead, and I’ll sell you Château St Michelle Chardonnay, Cavit Pinot Grigio, or Line 39 Cabernet instead. ;) (This comment was made in jest. I know you would’ve asked about the policy on the Cascades if that was an option to ride.)

Electrical supply in Southwest Chief Bedroom?

I want to say one for the lower floor, one for the upper. Now whether or not the GFCI outlets in the bathrooms/at the sinks in bedrooms are on the same set of breakers as the "normal" outlet by the temperature control, I don't know. What I do know is that I was shocked to see a bedroom with 3...

    One adult beverage “per trip”?

Contrary to popular belief on these forums, not every policy onboard is "made up" by the crew. LSAs couldn't care less if they're suppose to give multiple free drinks out. In fact, they'd likely be happy to, because who wouldn't tip after free alcohol? This is likely a lack of...
