Canadian border to open in November

Believe me, I’m all over the situation. I have no updates yet though. At this point we don’t have the equipment for it, until either the Jefferson gets back on the road, or we get more equipment (whether Horizons or Superliner). Staffing is also a minor concern as well. However, WSDOT is...

    One adult beverage “per trip”?

Western trains do wine (poured) by the glass, or by the full bottle.

    One adult beverage “per trip”?

It use to be one per trip, now it is one per dinner period. This applies whether in a train with flex dining or traditional dining.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

…If they were cooked in the microwave it would could be undercooked and overcooked at the same to time, not if they were done in the oven. The only entree that came out of the oven terrible was the omelette. That was actually better in the microwave. But again, it was preferred that the meals...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Hopefully the LSA has time to take food preorders, that way there’s time to cook them in the oven. Otherwise, they’re likely being done in the microwave. They could be precooking popular entrees and putting them in the steam tray too, though. I’ve got no idea what the menu will look like that...

    Getting from Seattle to Vancouver

It’s all good. I’m not really clear on those things around here, especially recently.

    Amtrak Cascades Talgo train

Indeed. So currently, that’s the 7:25am train south to Portland, and 7:20pm north to Seattle.

    Getting from Seattle to Vancouver

Canada initially prohibited all cruises until March of 2022, but then rolled it back to November 2021. I would be leary of using VIA as the last leg prior to boarding a cruise. With only changing between only weekly service and 2 or 3 trains a week, they have been known to drastically change...

PDX to Bellingham: Will i have time to retrieve and put checked baggage in bus?

Thruway bus 5622 is a guaranteed connection, and will wait for passengers with checked bags. The Cascades thruway buses all have the same devices conductors have, and know how many people to expect.

    Retiree pass

It definitely wasn’t an Amtrak operated website that directed you here. I will send it a private message with the email address for the department.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

What’s the question you’d like me to jump on? How flex meals are cooked? What the menu will be like come April? I wanted to make a joke, but I don’t want to detract from the seriousness of the Builder derailment. i was in a very minor derailment after hitting a pickup truck three weeks ago...

WSDOT retiring, selling Talgo trainsets, not acquiring "Wisconsin" trainsets yet

The Horizons are running with the split business class/Cafes as well. Seating is extremely limited however. It is 1x2 seating, but there are only 4 single seaters, and 5 doubles. As of right now, only one Talgo set is in service, and is currently running 503/508 every day. Once the other...

    Acela wheelchair seating

Yes, they do. Unless you state that you have a disability, the website should not allow you to book the ADA seats.

Am I the only person who likes to travel long distances in coach?

A typically bag coach is completely enclosed (no windows), locked, and has no outlets nor carpeting. Either way, if it works, it works.

    Lockers in Chicago or Sacramento?

I have never heard of agents making up their own policies regarding the baggage department storing luggage, but, alright… It’s been a bit since I’ve been to Chicago and paid attention, but they use to have lockers. However, you can definitely store bags at the baggage counter, though at a cost.

    Coach Cafe Pictures

    That's because there's only 8 in service. They're called "snack coaches". https://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php/Amtrak_Superliner_I#Snack_Coach_.2835001-35011.29

    Questions about becoming OBS Trainee

Yes, though it's not as bad as the airlines. Generally speaking, you will only work trains from/to your crew base, not end up working the Crescent to NYP, if you worked the Sunset from LAX to NOL. Mostly, no. But....if you're already working a trip, and are willing to work on your relief...
