    Starlight Boarding in Seattle

That would mostly be between you and your sleeper attendant. I am curious why you don't have it ticketed to have them in the bedroom, and yourself in the roomette, but it doesn't matter. There is nothing that states you can only be in the "your" room. Families rotate between rooms all the...

    Amtrak Cascades Service

I'm hoping to be back on the Builder for the winter, but we'll see. Maybe we'll cross paths in SEA or PDX. We don't ever work 11/14 unfortunately.

For those who are curious, 505/500 is now Horizon for a while. 503/508 will be Talgo. One trainset sustained some damage due to being rocked.

    Empire Builder turnaround at Portland

Though most of this is correct, both the Auto Train (in Sanford) and Capital Limited (in CHI) turn same day, as do the crews. If I remember correctly, the Sunset used to be something like....11 days on/8 days off, or something like that. Works for me! With one week of vacation, I could get 27...

    Empire Builder turnaround at Portland

The crew that works 27 laysover until the following day's 28. The equipment does not, and goes back out immediately. There is no spare equipment in PDX (not really anywhere to keep an entire trainset), which is why when 27 heavily delayed, they occasionally short-turn the equipment in SPK and...

    Amtrak Cascades Service

No problem. It so happens that on that day I'm working 50....3 and 508. I'll make sure to clear the way for ya. But yes, from what I've been hearing, they're trying to keep the Talgo sets contained to certain trips again. Which this makes sense, that way seating capacity is consistent from...

    Amtrak Cascades Service

505/500 are the only trains running Talgo at the moment. If you don't mind me asking, what's your date of travel?

Unfortunately I was on a leave of absence at that point, due to not being able to cross the Canadian border freely. If I don't end up seeing you, I hope you both have a great trip! I'm jealous, I still want to do an Alaskan cruise some day.

    Fire impacts Coast Starlight (6/29/21)

Yup, I know. I'm going to seem like "the guy who thinks he knows everything". Haha Although I work out of Seattle, I live in Vancouver, Canada. So the border closure is extremely important to me, and I'm always trying to stay in the loop. 30 days after the border opens to leisure travel, is...

    Fire impacts Coast Starlight (6/29/21)

Honestly, I'm not sure what the hold up has been. 1 coach attendant can work 2 coach cars. And when we only had the sleeper + dorm, we had the dorm staffed like a regular sleeper, because we were selling a lot of rooms in there. Like double what we would usually sell. The only thing I can...

    Fire impacts Coast Starlight (6/29/21)

Actually, there's already more SEA/EUG service than before Covid. There use to be 501 (SEA-PDX) at 7:25am, and 511 (PDX-EUG) at 9:30am. Now, 503 runs in place of 501, but runs to EUG. So I guess technically there's just better service going down that way, since there's two direct SEA/EUG...

It's all good. I recognize your screen name, but it really has been a while since I've been active. Not a big deal!

Odd. I'm pretty sure it was denoted as the 32 car when I worked the train for a few months back in late 2018/early 2019. It does make sense to keep things consistent, which is why I wish we'd just call it the 40 car. Oh well. Annnd the 27/28 side of the train has its own numbering...

    Fire impacts Coast Starlight (6/29/21)

Sort of... Because of being so short staffed right now in Seattle, we gave up the coach car on 27/28 to be crewed by Chicago as well. The sleepers, coaches, and lounge on 27/28 are still crewed by Chicago. The sleepers and diner on 7/8 are still crewed by Seattle, but that coach is crewed by...

No bedrooms available on Empire Builder

It's been a looong time since I've been active on AU, so that'd be why we haven't met. I started as an LSA in Boston, working Regionals and Acelas. I'd occassionally see OBS around, before he retired. I ended up transferring to Seattle almost 4 year ago.

The Builder always uses XX32 as the denotation of the dorm. XX30 and XX31 are regular sleepers. During the short consist season (like during the "Covid times"), the Builder will remove the XX31 car from the consist. So from from the diner it would be XX30, then XX32. I've never understood...

SEA, so you can see me again? :D I'm about to be bumped off the Builder any day now, though...time to go hold the Cascades again. Have a great trip, wherever you end up going!

Sudden Cancellation of Empire Builder from July 12th to ~July 16th? *Update* Maybe have been a whoopsie due to planned track maintenance!

Many people on AU will vouch for me, as will my coworkers and supervisors. Nothing wrong with verifying, but I promise you, you don't need to do that with me.

Just to clarify the alert, passengers are welcome aboard the two existing Cascades trains servicing SEA/EUG. No replacement train is being offered.

    Fire impacts Coast Starlight (6/29/21)

Part of the issue with doing a bus bridge is the fact that SEA is so short staffed, we can barely crew the Builder, even with giving the coach jobs to CHI crew base for the time being. (Getting new hires in SEA is hard these days...) So unless they fly LAX crews to/from SEA to work the train...
