Sudden Cancellation of Empire Builder from July 12th to ~July 16th? *Update* Maybe have been a whoopsie due to planned track maintenance!

A supervisor for the Builder is the source, if that's good. I'm not here to debate IT issues either. Just to pass on the news that the train will be operating in its entirety as originally planned.

Alright all, I checked in to it. We can end the doom and gloom. There was going to be bus bridge due to track work, but the track work was rescheduled for hours the train doesn't run. In short, service will run as scheduled! :)

    Amtrak booking website/issues/timetables removed

I looked closer, and found it does happen on other days, and in October as well. What the issue looks to be, is that 5005 doesn't show as running daily. I've passed it along to one of the best agents we have that does ticketing, and we'll see if she has connections to the right places.

    Amtrak's commissaries

No problem. Portland's is to the right of the baggage counter, buried in a few small offices, where the APD office is. Chicago has the main commissary in the yards, and a satellite commissary buried in the bowels of the station. If you ever are in CHI and see an LSA walking down the ramp to...

    Amtrak's commissaries

This is indeed something that folks need to keep in mind, but generally done. As a note, with Winter Park Express having such limited service, they are easily able to transport supplies from LAX on the Zephyr. If they wanted to offer a more "complex" menu, including items that needed...

    Amtrak's commissaries

Chicago also has 2. Portland, OR has 1. Fort Worth may have one? (It's also Amtrak's smallest OBS crew base!)

    Amtrak booking website/issues/timetables removed

Can I ask what the day was in September that you were looking for? I just looked at September 15th, and it came up with the following: Train 5 Depart CHI @ 2pm Arrive EMY @ 4:10pm (+2) Connecting Bus 5005 Depart EMY @ 4:25pm Arrive SFC @ 5pm

Gay male friend wants to become a conductor, BUT...

Honestly, just kind of fell out of love with AU, Facebook, and most social media over the last year. I'm sure you can imagine why, with all the drama and issues in the world that've been going on! Technically I'm still with Amtrak, though I haven't been to work in 6 months. Canada is taking...

    Sleeper Amenities on Empire Builder

I was lucky enough to have Gul on my crew when I worked the Builder for a few months. He truly is an amazing attendant!

So don't leave us hanging! Did he get the job? How did everything go?

One of the best NYP LSAs there was, in my opinion. Just saying!

Gay male friend wants to become a conductor, BUT...

Well, I can tell you that although I've only worked for Amtrak for 5 years (as of 5 days ago), I can't think of a single employee in any craft who has cared about my sexuality. In fact, I would say I've met more coworkers who are gay since I've started here, than ever before. In fact, another...

What it's like to work for Amtrak

The Builder gets wyed on its way to the yard, and operates "normally" both to the station, and on its way out. It's the only westbound train to do so. This is how most OBS easily tell which train is the Builder when it's in the yard (only old heads and more observant can spot a diner, sleeper...

    NW mudslide season 2018-19

It always depends on the situation. We usually get directed to ride the bus if there's space. Though last year I once opted to stay with the equipment. (We deadheaded from Bellingham to Vancouver due to a previous slide in New Westminster.) What a bad decision that was. Took us almost 6...

Where I'd cut costs... (Acela First Class)

Usually you and I see eye to eye, and even when we don't, I respect your decision. This is one case though, where you are far FAR off course. I don't know, I'm just thinking here, how much seats have you seen a flight attendant manage by themselves in First Class? I can tell you that on a...

Williamsburg - just..(times of train to DC)?

That was done because the state requested the schedule change. They heavily subsidize service in the State of Virginia, so that's on them.

Experiences with food availability on Silver Star-Northbound

Do they still carry the corridor menu? I guess that would be one perk of using Boars Head, it can be be purchased anywhere, as opposed to the York Street stuff (which I liked more) which could only be received from the one location.

Cafe on the Star gets 5 stars

Are we talking on or off duty? If off duty, I'd let it go. If on duty, but on break I'd tend to let it go, but it is technically against the rules. No offense to those who have previously questioned if it would be okay to sit in the crew lounge, and I know this off topic, but this would be a...
