Departing from a different station to that ticketed

Pacific Surfliner is a bit different in that there's frequent service. I've ridden it several times and flexibility was always there - I think technically the ability to use a coach ticket up to a year (from purchase or specified travel date I don't recall) as "unreserved". But of course...

Departing from a different station to that ticketed

So has the policy changed? I always heard the time was 2 hours from departure, but I can't find anything that currently states what it is. All I can find is that a **segment** will be cancelled for a no-show. But I thought that previously an entire ticket on the same reservation would be...

A case of illegally establishing residences in Caltrain station offices

OK. It’s 5 years and has a bunch of things including paying property taxes. Trying to hide won’t cut it. https://schorr-law.com/adverse-possession-requirements-california/

A case of illegally establishing residences in Caltrain station offices

I think it’s 7 years in California, but it also requires paying property taxes by the adverse possessor. It’s really meant for abandoned properties. I think they’re also owned by the joint powers authority that owns Caltrain, so yeah, government owned.

A case of illegally establishing residences in Caltrain station offices

I think part of it would be the station buildings used to contain ticket offices that would otherwise be empty. I'm guessing that's the space he used. That was discontinued in favor of ticket machines and an interagency fare card. Millbrae had been a Caltrain station for a long time, so I'm...

i was thinking maybe they would supplements in a public filing of the potential charges.

A case of illegally establishing residences in Caltrain station offices

That's bold. I guess there was that Seinfeld episode where George had a bed installed under his desk to nap during the day. But this takes it to a different level. https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/caltrain-employee-contractor-charged-building-secret-homes-public-108637800 Prosecutors...

Would the Golden Gate Bridge have been able to support a BART train?

Where to start? The issue with BART was supposedly the novel aluminum shells, which were extremely light. Not sure about bridges, but they have several viaduct sections from Richmond to Berkeley as well as from Oakland to Fremont. There were worries about the wind possibly knocking over cars...

Bull on tracks disrupts operations at Newark Penn Station

Would a Taser have brought it down? And who responds to this sort of thing? Local police? Amtrak Police? NJT Police? Local animal control?

Bull on tracks disrupts operations at Newark Penn Station

I doubt it's raised in New Jersey. Probably got there by train to one of the local slaughterhouses. Some reports say it's going to go to an animal sanctuary, but I'm sure it's got tags and branding that will be enough to identify the owner. Looks like it would make a nice ribeye...

Bull on tracks disrupts operations at Newark Penn Station

Didn't seem real at first. I didn't see any reports if it disrupted Amtrak operations, or just NJ Transit. https://www.nj.com/news/2023/12/cow-on-train-track-delaying-nj-transit-trains-at-newark-penn-station.html

Fare differences - different trains for the same routes

I was looking to maybe travel between Richmond or Emeryville, CA to Martinez and was looking at the prices. Cheapest was San Joaquins for $6 one way (EMY or RIC). Capitol Corridor is $12 from RIC or $13 from EMY. But depending on the day it might be $8 on San Joaquins, but the CZ is actually...

    Las Vegas Monorail

The underpinnings are supposed to be the Mark VI that was designed for WDW by Bombardier, but automated and with slightly different cosmetics. The full sized monorails I've ridden on are Disneyland, Seattle, Expo 86 (Vancouver), Sydney, and LV. We rode on something called a "monorail" at a...

    Las Vegas Monorail

The reason why the location is awkward is because the casinos complained that a location along the Strip would block the views of their properties. There are still apparently plans to extend to the airport but they haven't gotten very far. I've taken the monorail and I found it OK, but I was...

LA Metro eliminating day passes - going to fare cap model

I'm not sure why, but today (Oct 5, 2023) I got this message from TAP customer service: Metro is simplifying how you pay your fare on bus and rail. These changes make it easier for everyone who pays with TAP to earn free rides. Here’s what you can expect starting July 1: Your base fare isn’t...

Bay Area Rapid Transit retiring "legacy cars" from routine service

They're quite lightweight compared to typical steel transit cars. But it turned into a huge headache trying get bids for new equipment contracts. But the width was meant to make it more stable in high winds, where there might not be enough weight.

    Washington DC Metro discussion

I heard the Amazon Prime series Jack Ryan used a subway in the Montreal area. The LA Metro was used for scenes in Lethal Weapon 3 before it had even opened.

Bay Area Rapid Transit retiring "legacy cars" from routine service

The fabric was durable as heck. I'm pretty sure there were still some original seats in service after 45+ years. But it also seemed nearly impossible to clean. The nastiest thing I saw was what looked like an empty seat, but I decided not to sit there because someone had left raw meat on the...
