    United, American, Delta, and Southwest

Sadly no airline is the same since deregulation and the addition of the TSA. Having spent 45 years in the aviation field (passenger/cargo) today's airlines are a major disappointment. It has been a couple of years since I have flown my most recent favorite carrier was Frontier. But sadly they...

    Railcams and train times

Last time I saw it heading west it was running right behind the CZ. If I remember right the CZ was about 2 hours late so it was around 0945. The eastbound was about 1530.

    Railcams and train times

Love this cam! 25 miles west of home. Great for watching the CZ and Rocky Mountaineer. As well as weather over Denver Metro. There were some fantastic lightning shows last month.

Silver Star 92 derailed by semi in Lakeland, FL (7-14-23)

There is a free app at least for Android phones called Railroad Crossing Locator. It uses your GPS location and it shows the grade crossing number which I assume is based on the FRA database. Like the closest crossing to me is ID: 057193L on the BNSF Brush Sub. A 4-lane crossing is now being...

    Tipping on Amtrak

I have also found that $2.00 bills are great for tipping for a quick request. Only problem is getting them. Banks (at least mine) has a limited number on hand. I usually tip the SCA $10.00 when boarding then $10-20.00 at the end depending. After all "TIPS" means to insure prompt service. And...

    California Zephyr discussion

I was also profiled on the CZ which I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated. I posted this a couple years ago. Local LEO do board Amtrak trains! A few years ago I booked a quick ride for fun and relaxation from FMG to EMY and back in a roomette. The return the following day. Well that apparently...

Why don't more "High Profile" people ride the train?

Some do. Liza Minnelli was in the bedroom next to me on one trip on the Desert Wind. Her bodyguards kept everyone at a distance when she left the room for dinner. Went back to the room and didn't see her again until we arrived in LA and she was hustled away. Maureen Stapleton was in a bedroom...

    California Zephyr discussion

Done the CZ and most others several times in roomettes and bedrooms. Have left my laptop, camera, gps and other items sitting in the room. And bag(s) in the luggage rack and have never had an issue. Nor have I ever encountered any other traveler that has either. Occasionally luggage would be...

    Longest flight experiences

I flew by myself from MIA-IDL then IDL-MUC when I was 11 years old. Don't remember how long it was just remember the stewardesses taking care of this little kid. Now a days 2.5 hours is miserable. I'll take a week on train versus flying. And I grew up (on the MIA airport) and made my career...

    Hotels convenient to Amtrak

I do believe it is private with full hook-ups. As for MARC vs Metro that I can't tell ya. It was back in the late 90's when I was there. And I am out in Denver.

    Hotels convenient to Amtrak

There is another campground that is convenient to DC. That is Cherry Hill Park Campground in College Park, MD. Stayed there when it first opened and was very pleased. There is a bus stop in the park right in front of the office with service to the Greenbelt Park 'n Ride where the Green Line MARC...

✈️ US dominates World's Busiest Airports list for second year running

UPS operates 5-6 flights a day to/from various sort hubs. FedEx the same, Amazon/Prime have a couple and DHL operates into here. That does include the multiple feeder aircraft like Key Lime Air.

    Coach restrooms

Love it. My sister-in-law rides Winter Park to Hollywood all the time. Though we've never spoken about restrooms on the Silvers. I've ridden all of the western long distance trains several times and all have been in a sleeper roomettes or bedrooms. Though did have a couple of occasion to visit...

Been a A343 running for the last couple of months from FRA. And an A359 from MUC on the route today.

Luggage full size (but within size restrictions)

Only time I've checked luggage (soft-sided) was one trip east to Boston via the LSL. Husband and I decided to take the LSL out of New York for the trip home. We took a regional down from Boston and checked our luggage through. Well weather was cruddy in NY when we arrived at Penn Station so we...

Farewell to the Queen of the Skies

Regretfully LH changed over to an A340 from a 747 FRA/DEN and BA went from a 747 to a 787. So DEN only sees an occasional UPS, Western Global or Atlas cargo 747 grace her runways.

Most interesting encounter(s) on a train

This was my most interesting Amtrak trip: Local LEO do board Amtrak trains! A few years ago I booked a quick ride for fun and relaxation from FMG to EMY and back in a roomette. The return the following day. Well that apparently triggers certain computers like Amtrak, NCIS and DEA to that could...
