    Dispatching, restocking and refueling discussion

Not sure why but I have watched #6 leave DUS and then stop around 38th Avenue and Wazee Street for 15-30 minutes many times. This is on the Brush Sub. Now there is a large complex with multiple food suppliers in it also access to the small multi-track yard. I have looked around but I haven't...

    Rude Amtrak employees

Thanx... Seems like it is always the "suits" get the recognition. I can understand folks who go above and beyond in disasters and the like. A monthly recognition goes a long way.

    Rude Amtrak employees

Curious, does Amtrak have any kind of customer service award i.e. Employee of the Month, a special parking spot at their domicile, financial or even extra paid time off? This could be for different departments like OBS, ticket agents, baggage agents, conductors, etc.. And more importantly a way...

    Power strips in Roomettes

This is all I've ever used. Has always worked out fine. I plug the short cord into the outlet and the the 3 plug adapter and wedge it between the seat and wall. This is in a Roomette and not a Bedroom.

Lockheed L-1049 Constellation and other propeller planes of mid-20th century

Did the reverse of that trip in '64. Had spent the summer in Augsburg, Germany with my sister and brother-in-law. Somehow when he was separated after his 4 years he managed to get me on a MATS flight as a dependent (I was 12). It was a Connie we flew back on. Though it wasn't uneventful. Weather...

Lockheed L-1049 Constellation and other propeller planes of mid-20th century

Love this video. The air traffic controller sitting down talking on the microphone is my dad @16:10. He was an air traffic controller/supervisor at Miami International for 30 years. Though the film supposedly is New York/Newark but it is actually Miami.

Future Amtrak Equipment and ADA ideas

I think you're referring to the "Slumbercoach". Husband and I had single rooms on the LSL back and forth from CUS to BOS. A bit cramped for one but doable. The car went on to NYP so we had to ride coach from ALB into BOS. We took a regional from BOS to NYC and walk to NYP in a snow storm so we...

Consequences of not obeying Amtrak employees

In all my years of travel (and that includes being a flight attendant) I can only remember one instance in which a crew member was blatantly rude to me (and others). And that was a Conductor on the CZ #5 I was boarding at Fort Morgan, CO (FMG). They were running about 2 hours behind and she...

    FDA rules in cafe?

I have heard the same announcement many times on multiple different routes. And I have only seen any enforcement of eating in the lounge being on the lower level. I have seen many (usually Amish and/or Mennonite families) dining on their homemade meals upstairs without any issues. Though I do...

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

Access to the scene looks like it is gonna be difficult. Only access is a quarter mile down a a small trackside access dirt road. There are irrigation ditches on both sides of the track. Note: location is taken from the last GPS coordinates shown.

    New Traditional Dining Menu

I had a Dole bag of pre-cut Caesar Salad yesterday 5 days past the "Best If Used By" date. Kept in the refrigerator and not a problem at all. Smelled fine and tasted fine. "Best If Used By" date is a sales gimmick. Use common sense and your senses.

Gas prices where you are located?

I remember paying $0.35 for Sunoco 260 for my Fiat 850 in 1970. Cost me $2.80 to fill it when it was on fumes.

    Airplane breakdowns

All the winglet does is improve fuel economy and even that is questionable. Some manufacturers have moved away from them. Like Boeing's 747-800 versus the 747-400.

    California Zephyr discussion

    1. Though snow is a possibility year-round through the Rockies. (I've driven thru it on July 4th) but March and April is normally the snowiest months except this year where April was the driest in history. But they are getting 6-8" up there today. 2. I have done round-trips several times from...

    Tipping on Amtrak

I always tip (good or bad service) the SCA, Lounge/Snack Bar and Dining. But this triggered a question on the Dining Car. Does anyone know if the Dining crew split the tips? There are several persons providing the service LSA, Servers and all the kitchen crew.

August 1969 I took the Mohawk Airlines cargo shuttle from Boston to Detroit.

Yeah Cape is scattered all over. Up in New England mainly. Down in Puerto Rico. Out of Nashville. Up in Montana I think. A couple of planes and crews in each region. They are still flying several of the old PBA C-402s. They are upgrading their fleet with new Tecnam PC12s.

August 1969 I took the Mohawk Airlines cargo shuttle from Boston to Detroit.

This one is well after my tenure (1970-1975) with them. We only operated between Miami and Naples and between Tampa and Naples. Long before the YS-11 (pictured) came online. We had 7 DC-3s, 2 Lockheed 10 Electras, a couple of Piper Aztecs and Cherokee Sixes and a brand new Cessna 402 (N402PB)...

August 1969 I took the Mohawk Airlines cargo shuttle from Boston to Detroit.

Several of TTA's DC-3s were purchased by PBA and fully overhauled and refurbished and flew many years with them. A couple are still going strong. One of them N136PB (now N18121) has the highest flying time of any aircraft. Also one of them (N34PB) was sold to Brietling Watch and did an around...
