    Amtrak Gallery Cars?

Ok. So the upstairs had single seating. Also, it's interesting that the they were originally built for long distance travel and even had club car versions. This sent me down a rabbit hole. It seems odd the CNW would order cars like this for long distance as they have more commuter features, such...

    Wow. What a coincidence.

    Amtrak Gallery Cars?

I've seen a few photos, from back in early days of Amtrak, of Amtrak trains with gallery cars. Amtrak paint and everything. However, very little information about these seems to available online. I can't find any images of what they looked like on the inside. I'm curious because they don't seem...

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

To be fair, pdf schedules of trains are becoming increasingly rare all over the world. You just have to look at a map, and enter the two stations on the website.

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

And when the stuff around Springfield is complete. I think the Rock Island routing is still many, many years away because the st Charles airline connection needs to be built.

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

My updated 301 ticket lists a travel time of 4 hours, 45 minutes, which is 15 minutes slower than the initial advertised time of 4 hours, 30 minutes.

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

I don't know if it's relevant to this exact thread, but according to this Sun Times article, Blue Island-Vermont will become the new "suburban station" for Amtrak if they switch to the Rock Island line...

    Pontiac Michigan turnaround

Hello. I just have a quick question about the wolverine terminal in Pontiac Michigan. Just from looking at Google maps, it appears that there is no Y or any other way to turn the train around. Likewise, most wolverine trains run with the a locomotive in the front and back. However, sometimes I...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

Wouldn't the benefits of having a uniform, standard long distance fleet outweigh the downsides. Currently, there are 2 incompatible long distance fleets. Also, I highly doubt they would have to lengthen the trains. They will not have to lengthen platforms. They already have plenty of platform...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

One thing dawned on me yesterday. Amtrak should buy only single level cars going forward. This is because there are many corridor stations that can be easily upgraded to high level platforms because the don't see freight trains (also, the venture cars have gap fillers, so it will now be possible...

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

On a side note, I do feel the Chicago - St. Louis corridor gets outsized attention due to the fact that it's located pretty much entirely within one state. For comparison, the Chicago - Detroit corridor is more useful. Metro Detroit is bigger than Greater St Louis. However, that corridor runs...

How do you propose the route from Peoria to STL go?

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

https://media.amtrak.com/2023/05/110-mph-schedules-coming-for-amtrak-chicago-st-louis-corridor/ According to this, the schedules will remain the same temporarily until they can accurately determine the real travel time between stations.

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

Yeah. That's the obvious solution. In a perfect world, trains would run down that corridor every hour. I believe the phase two of the project (which probably isn't happening for a really long time) includes adding an additional 4 round trips. All expresses.

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

Honestly, I feel that the Texas Eagle should terminate in St Louis and should be replaced with connecting Lincoln service trains on the Chicago to STL segment. Coming from St Louis, the eagle is the only convenient morning departure, but it is prone to delays, making St Louis passengers wait...
