    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

You’re ignoring the fact that the driver of the dump truck broke the law and killed himself and two others by doing so. That is the only question here. You can put all the lights and gates up that you want to, and people will STILL run right through them. Enough with the blame game. There...

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

The railroad lets them cross there. If the locals want to upgrade the warning devices, they’re paying for it. I believe it’s based on the amount of traffic that the road sees. Do we know if the fatalities on board were crew or passengers?

Possible disposition of Amfleets and Horizons after ICTs are deployed

Brighton Park has no storage space. You also have storage options on the AML in at least one, potentially three different places. Michigan City Battle Creek (NS uses a small portion of the yard) Ypsilanti (I believe it’s at/near CP Townline).

4/12/22 EB Cancellations due to forecast blizzard

if you’re from the Midwest, drinking beer and playing cornhole while ice fishing comes to mind. Railroads are taking a safer approach now than they did in the 20th century. It’s no longer just about running trains, it’s the safety of the crews. I’m not about to ask a crew to drive in and...

4/12/22 EB Cancellations due to forecast blizzard

I was in a work meeting when I got the news. BNSF is pretty much shutting down all local work and are trying to directionally run on the KO and Devil’s Lake subs but they’re expecting significant disruptions due to this blizzard. Trying to send Amtrak through that mess isn’t going to work.

4/12/22 EB Cancellations due to forecast blizzard

A7-11 will be the last passenger train through Minot today; both A8-11 and A8-12 terminating at Spokane with A7-12 and A7-13 both terminating at MSP. Couldn’t find delay thread.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

My understanding is that Chicago has always pulled cars for writeups…it just depends on what it is. But a BO is a BO car.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

it would be attractive as a one off “going green” thing, but not as the phase VII livery

Powers vested in Conductors for maintaining order

All rail conductors in Michigan are empowered with the same legal authority as a county sheriff as long as they are on their employer’s property, so they can in theory arrest someone. I’m not sure what the exact statute number is.

    Wolverine Service Operations

it might but in the end, which is better for the customer? Being able to control the train with a minor stop to reset the train to run off the trailing unit or wait for potentially hours for a new crew and a rescue unit to come from Pontiac or Chicago? Guarantee Amtrak’s extra board, if they...
