    Wolverine Service Operations

shouldnt need a rescue unit if it’s on the train. You can operate the train using MU’d locomotives only if your leader dies but it’s not ideal.

    Wolverine Service Operations

    1) there is no IDTX 1624 or 1615. 2) yes, it’s standard. The only Michigan Service trains that regularly run with units on both ends are the Pete Marquette and the Blue Water because there’s no place to turn power. Why they leave one at Pontiac is anyone’s guess.

I’m on the TE/SL that’s having mechanical issues UPDATE: We are about 14 hours late

with no anti-climbers, I might add. 120 car trains aren’t the issue; they’ve been running 100+ car trains for a while. It’s the footage that is of concern. You get over 7000 feet and you can start having serious issues in the winter. Our operating restrictions state that in a certain...

I’m on the TE/SL that’s having mechanical issues UPDATE: We are about 14 hours late

Others have explained it well but I’ll take a stab at it too: It’s essentially doing more with less. Where can we find areas to maximize our efficiencies and minimize our wastes. On paper it’s a good strategy: you have trains scheduled for departure at this time, scheduled to arrive at this...

I’m on the TE/SL that’s having mechanical issues UPDATE: We are about 14 hours late

If I had a nickel every time someone wanted me to just “find a crew”, I wouldn’t have to work anymore. Crew bases were slashed with the PSR craze, they’re bumping people left and right, terminal to terminal to terminal in an effort to alleviate staffing issues that were caused by their own...

I’m on the TE/SL that’s having mechanical issues UPDATE: We are about 14 hours late

traveling from one location to another to begin your work is one meaning. Another is a crew returning from a place to their terminal. For example: I have a crew that goes on duty at my terminal at 0700. They have twelve hours to work, so they die at 1900. The train they’re supposed to pick up...

    3 Locos in EB consist

air flows are becoming a real problem right now too with how cold it is on the northern transcon, not to mention P42 aging. better to have a third HEP as a reserve if it’s needed. given the size of the EB consist I doubt they would have a whole lot of issues with air (vs a grain drag or H train)...

Special announcement from Amtrak this weekend?

not talking about actual passengers but rather RPA, the passenger railroad advocacy group. all Amtrak trains on BNSF lines will carry a Z9 symbol since the A symbols are meaningless. If you know, you know.

    Horn noise and fumes

Never had an issue with fumes or the horn when I took LD sleepers. I was second or third car back.

Is the Wolverine getting new coach cars?

they’re between Michigan City and NBU. I always thought it was closer to NBU but it’s been a while. Yes, the whole line between CP Townline and CP 482 is operated by Amtrak. However, the only 110mph segment currently is between Kalamazoo (a little easy now actually) and just east of Porter, IN...

Is the Wolverine getting new coach cars?

I don’t understand why they’re in Jackson. I’m sure Amtrak has a reason but from a layman’s perspective New Buffalo would’ve been a better option because Amtrak wouldnt be paying for storage space in the Jackson facility…doubtful NS is just letting them use a yard track.

    Raton pass delays

This is exactly right. BNSF actively tries to avoid delays for Amtrak.
