California Zephyr Hits Garbage Truck in Iowa

that is correct. they’re gonna be there a while.

California Zephyr Hits Garbage Truck in Iowa

I mean….the answer is likely yes because we probably have more crossings here than any other country.

California Zephyr Hits Garbage Truck in Iowa

That is correct, both Amtrak units had flat spots that are considered federal (likely from plugging the brake line) and are not road-worthy. The plow on 36 was cut off too. 5 is supposed to cut off an engine to be used on the back of 6 for HEP.

California Zephyr Hits Garbage Truck in Iowa

Maybe not to passengers, but initial report says there were crew injuries. They hit a garbage truck. Lead locomotive, 36, is seriously damaged and is unusable. Supposedly they’re going to set it out at Ottumwa and continue to Chicago with the remaining Gennie

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Capitol Limited to Chicago, then probably a 9xx symbol to the yard in New Buffalo or potentially even Gearhart Yard in Kalamazoo. I wouldn’t expect a deadhead move on the back of a revenue train.

    Heartland Flyer Versus Car Carrier

gennies don’t have frames like other locomotives, but depending on the damage yeah it could be a while if ever. That’s why the P42s have bolt on noses now, easy repair. that is correct, placing shunt on the track is technically against the law if you’re not a railroad employee and even then we...

    30 (17-18) is really late

Either could be possible. We had an issue recently where a crew was talked through a Form B (work zone) and PTC put them into emergency because it thought they had violated the work limits. It’s still an imperfect system.

    30 (17-18) is really late

Most freight power is good for 70.

Just the four cars and the power? I thought the minimum axle count for trains on CN is 32 axles.

WSDOT retiring, selling Talgo trainsets, not acquiring "Wisconsin" trainsets yet

I believe there used to be a business class car in the Horizon fleet but I’m not sure if they’re still around. Haven’t seen any in Michigan for quite some time. Biz always is in the Amfleet Cafe car. No, there is no way to know ahead of time if you’re the average consumer. If you do a little...

Live Railcam catches shooting at Tucson station

This isn’t the first shooting on Amtrak station property or a train and sadly it won’t be the last. There was a Conductor who was shot in Naperville a few years ago. I believe he recovered and returned to the job. A few months ago a man inbound from California ended up getting wasted by Amtrak...

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Except the problem here is that the NTSB hasn’t even given a preliminary report as to what happened. We know two things: 7/27 was traveling UNDER the speed limit at the time of derailment (the lawsuit claims that the train failed to slow for the switch, called the Amtrak crew incompetent, etc)...

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Our lawsuit standards need to be seriously overhauled. IF they can prove negligence, then of course someone should be coughing up some dough. But the preliminary report isn’t even out yet. We have no idea what happened other than Amtrak was traveling below the speed limit and they derailed...

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

You’d think “leading railroad catastrophe lawyers” would know something about railroad operations, or at least would be able to read a map defining who owns what… These guys are idiots.

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Not to mention outright lies… “Amtrak and BNSF employed workers and personnel at the train station in Chicago, Illinois to assist passengers boarding the Empire Builder train, including Rebecca and Zach.” This is false. While BNSF does employ personnel who work at Union Station, they have...

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Trains are probably being rerouted south into other terminals.

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Agreed. Just wanted to mention that it happens a lot more than people think it does, unfortunately.
  18. N

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Not necessarily. On BNSF it goes Clear, Approach Medium (Advance Approach on the eastern roads), Approach, and then stop. There could be any number of scenarios that would trigger a sudden “stop” indication such as a broken rail, a signal failure, etc. Again, not necessarily. PTC is still very...

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

The last few Superliners are resting before the switch. The rest of the train is sitting past the switch. The points are lined for movement to the right track (not sure if it’s considered MT1 or MT2 up there) but the diner appears to be sitting around the left hand track. Now that could very...

Didn't even realize that VIA was already receiving cars, impressive. Thanks for the info
