Both Autotrains & Silver Meteor in Service Disruption

It’s probably the same language pulled from the OBSSM so it doesn’t panic passengers or anyone else.

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

Not a huge surprise but glad it’s finally confirmed. Hoping they turn out well!

Canadian Pacific buying Kansas City Southern?

KCS/CP deal doesn’t mean anything. The KCS board has a fiduciary duty to pursue the best deal for the shareholders, and if that ends up being CN instead of CP then it’ll be CN/KCS.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

frequentflyer hit it right on the head. Any new piece of equipment is gonna have teething issues. That’s why the Navy does shakedown cruises with new ships and after refits: to find and repair defects.

Republican coalition against Mobile Amtrak service

    1) Love the profile picture. 2) Yes, politicians do indeed love studies. Some use studies to delay or derail (pardon the pun) projects like this so the other side will drop it. Other use studies to show a potentially hostile crowd that this isn't some half-baked project and that their tax...

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

Gotta consider potential issues with CSX on that run. The Plymouth Subdivision isn't in rough shape but it also is going to take a lot of improvement. SOTL is something that is still very much on Amtrak's wish list. I remember that their five-year plan from two years ago specifically listed...

    Stressful on-board announcements

The OBSSM doesn’t cover everything. The version available on Amtrak’s website is also a redacted version (says so right in the URL). Conductors and OBS personnel use their best judgement when the situation requires a non-standard response. Frankly, if I had to choose between a Conductor who...

    Stressful on-board announcements

Masks are required on all public transport systems. Trainmasters have likely been instructed to do frequent audits to ensure the crew is enforcing the law and taking action if someone is disobeying. As a result, masks announcements are frequent. Station stop announcements are also a frequent...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

I disagree...if Amtrak is contracted to run a service and it says AMTRAK and it’s marketed as AMTRAK then its an Amtrak service. You don’t see regional airlines operating their jets in their own paint normally because there are branding standards. The times you do are for aircraft to float...

it’s the special one, phase VI hasn’t been released yet.

    Amtrak Vulnerability Assessment

Major transportation coordination centers have redundancy in their power supplies to account for power loss or natural disasters. Not to mention that those systems are pretty well secured. While I agree that some sort of assessment has likely been done, there’s no way we’d every see anything...

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

Ive been working on one based off the Viewliner design but it’s nowhere near ready to be shown. I’m not even sure I still have it on my laptop hard disk but I’ll look for it.

1.5 billion for Amtrak in stimulus with daily service mandate (Passed in Congress)

I don’t disagree (and as an avid West Wing fan I’d like to think I’ve learned a decent amount of how things work in DC) but had this happened sooner, I probably wouldn’t have accepted with a major Class I and waited to see if Amtrak was going to start hiring conductors again.

1.5 billion for Amtrak in stimulus with daily service mandate (Passed in Congress)

I wish the House would’ve done this sooner so it was ready for the new Admin in January...it would’ve significantly changed my career plans.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Again, all stolen off Twitter. Can’t remember the user’s handle but they aren’t my photos. So far I like what I see. Very spacious and the windows look great.

I don’t think it’s passed through Kalamazoo yet unless I missed it. Haven’t heard anything this morning

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

IDOT has informed me that the test train left Chicago at 7:20 Central this morning. Should be on the AML now barring any delays.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

The western half of the AML is already 110mph barring slow orders due to maintenance or ITCS failure. The real trick has been getting everything east of Kalamazoo up to par. NS left it in pretty bad shape when MDOT bought up the line. Work has been proceeding slowly over the last few years and...
