    Boston's Green Line Extension

I like the "tap Charlie Card here" sign by the hole with a wire sticking out. Umm, maybe a few punch list items left?

Taxi? Uber? Lyft? Bus? from SEA station to hotel??

I'd just chime in that whether you do the bus or not depends on the the kind of person you are. I take public transit in cities I'm unfamiliar with all the time. You say "we" in your post so assuming you won't be alone. The bus will be fine in Seattle and it's a quick ride. You can buy an Orca...

Fare Systems - POP or not

Not every one, no, but a pretty big majority of them. I would not say that POP is the norm, the conductor model seems more common. And certainly the ones with the most substantial ridership have conductors. Though I will say Metra conductors often work as a random check POP, sometimes they...

Fare Systems - POP or not

Commuter systems have conductors taking tickets, and while that is barrier-free I don't think of it as the same way as POP systems as they run in Europe. It's not random check.

Fare Systems - POP or not

The article seems to say that it is only an interim process until their new fare system is in place. It's too bad America won't do POP fare systems. I think it is so much better than our fare barrier systems. People seem to think that there would be more fare evasion but there really isn't any...

South Shore's Last Street Running Trips

Seems like those platforms are overdue for a complete rebuild anyway. I've always wondered why they only have the three platforms there, I don't know the history.

Philadelphia Airport to 30th Street: SEPTA or Lyft?

I'm in the middle of a program to get a degree in Travel and Tourism, which I'll complete in December. I hope to be doing something in the field by early next year. I'll do an internship in the fall. A life's second act thing for me...

Chicago UP Metra Trains Not Running Due to Suspicious Package

Ogilvie train station shut down and evacuated due to suspicious package (at least that's the story right now). Streets on all four sides of the station blocked off. This all started about 4:00pm CST, right when I showed up to catch the train out to my class at a community college. It is now...

South Shore's Last Street Running Trips

True. I know this project is going to add capacity and thy are promoting being able to run more rush hour trains, but I haven't seen just how many more trains they'll be able to run. But I also thing some of their added ridership could happen in off peak, draw people to the train who wouldn't...

South Shore's Last Street Running Trips

I'm excited to see it finally too. I made sure to grab a ride out before the street running ended and before they closed the 11th St stop. But it really is a long-overdue project. I can't believe the projected time savings they are talking about. I think that could really get a lot more people...

    Illini/Saluki Top Speed

Was that speed achieved only after all the work CT did on the line these last many years? I lived in NYC in the mid-aughts and we used to go to Springfield, MA all the time to see my wife's family and I don't remember it ever booking like that. I knew there was a bunch of double-tracking that...

    Boston's Green Line Extension

My wife went to Tufts for undergrad in the 90s, she would have loved having the Green Line go right from the middle of campus to downtown Boston.

    New York Penn Station v3.0

I do love the closing off of 33rd St all the way to 9th.

    Metra Conductor robbed

I certainly don't disagree that "Merica has some of the jerkiest people on the planet. But if we're talking 10% of passengers being a problem that would mean (by pre-pandemic ridership level) that the average Metra train would have over 10 problem passengers per rail car, so a rush hour train...

    Metra Conductor robbed

I'd hope that number would be in the 99%+ range, 10% of passengers being pieces of work or dangerous would be a huge number of awful people to deal with daily.

    Metra Conductor robbed

Several local outlets are reporting that his mother saw his photos on the news and drove him to turn himself in. I think if you saw a media headline using the word "dragged" that would be bad journalistic hyperbole.

    Illini/Saluki Top Speed

There are speed apps you can download to your phone that you can use the next time you ride and see in real time how fast you're going. I used one when I was on a trip out east on the Hartford Line, was surprised to see that there were portions on that line that topped 100 mph.

Why don't more "High Profile" people ride the train?

I don't know, I think it is something of a myth that famous people are constantly surrounded by security/entourage and kept away from the public. While that is true for a select few I don't think most celebrities live that way. I spotted famous actors on the street all the time when I lived in...
