Empire Builder service disruption in Montana (2/22/22)

There was also a minor freight derailment in that area, so that doesn't help.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

It's simply a matter of cost of removing the existing crossings (No new crossings opened on the mainline for the Brightline service) vs the costs of the disruptions that collisions cause.

    Avoidable expense metrics

In the case of "Avoidable Operating Expense" vs "Passenger Revenue" it is accurate.

Amtrak long term service cancellations and restorations (2022-2023H1)

There is a bypass route available.

    1993 Sunset Limited derailment

The only inaccuracy I see is the lead locomotive being listed as an F40, when it was a P40. Other than that, the USFA report seems to have the correct info, from the photos I've seen. The far upper left corner of this image shows unit 819, the P40. To its right is an F40, then the bridge...

Checking up on Amtrak's (lack of) ADA compliance

The gap fillers may be for use on the CAHSR trackage when it opens to traffic before being fully connected to the major cities...

Silver Star/Silver Meteor combined train (Jan - Oct 2022)

I noticed that the silver meteor is currently moving, am I missing something, or did Amtrak already backtrack on combining the star and meteor?

Montana Rail Authority calling for Amtrak route study

Thanks for the images of the stations, and what can qualify as a shelter for a small town unmanned train station.

What's the latest with 8/28? Weather, equipment, staff and other disruptions

In this case, specific to the Empire Builder, the train runs as 2 in the computers at Amtrak, trains 7 and 8 are the Seattle section, and 27 and 28 are the Portland section. In all practicality, they are a single train from Chicago to Spokane, or from Spokane to Chicago. As for the terms used...

Montana Rail Authority calling for Amtrak route study

It might be good, or bad, depending on who you ask and how the wind is blowing...

How Often Does This Happen: trains over 24 hours late?

That set ended up backing up to Spokane, then detouring to Seattle via Portland.

Montana Rail Link to give ex-NP line back to BNSF

I find it suspicious that the date is cut off after the 20 in 20XX for the year... EDIT: other more clear images have been posted on Facebook. I wonder if this means that BNSF road crews will take over for all but the MRL traffic locals...

How Often Does This Happen: trains over 24 hours late?

Between the derailments on the Lakeside and Scenic subdivisions, and a mudslide on the Seattle subdivision, BNSF hasn't been having a good week in that area...

How Often Does This Happen: trains over 24 hours late?

Yeah, a derailment (of a freight train in the area) will do that. Since the highways over the passes in the area are also closed, no bus bridge is possible.

How Often Does This Happen: trains over 24 hours late?

This is a very unusual situation for the Empire Builder, which during a "normal" winter may experience some delays, up to 6-12 hours, for a week or two in a season, with most being 2-4 hours late. This has been my experience, at least.

    What happens on missed connections?

The only connection that you have scheduled, which might prove to be a problem, is the Portland connection. Since it is a guaranteed connection, if you purchased the ticket all as a single trip, Amtrak will make sure you get to Milwaukee. That may be by holding the Empire Builder for the...

Agreement between CP and Amtrak about Detroit River Tunnel

Can we get a source on this?

Is it possible for CZ to go through Omaha - Des Moines - Iowa City - Davenport - Chicago?

Part of the reason that the CZ currently operates on the BNSF line through the area is that Amtrak tends to stay on larger railroad's lines, but another part is that the towns along the route, like Burlington, have pushed their politicians to keep the line the way it is. A better solution for...

Passengers allowed to walk around train while NOT in station

Not quite, East Glacier, MT. We were parked on the siding where the turning wye is for that town.

Passengers allowed to walk around train while NOT in station

Yeah, my trip in November included a severe wind caused delay, and our conductor opened up a coach door to allow some passengers the opportunity to get some fresh air, and I took that opportunity… This was rather fun. I had wondered why we weren’t parked at the station in the town instead...
