    🚂 Amtrak One-Way Coach @ $683 ❓

For arrival at Los Angeles, yes, but not for departure.

    🚂 Amtrak One-Way Coach @ $683 ❓

Looks like it isn't a direct train, so there may be an answer in determining which routing the website is trying to put you on.

Pacific Surfliner and Coast Starlight FUL-SEA round trip

They can sell slightly over the capacity and hope that some people cancel or miss the train. Or there may be some seats out of service.

Most interesting encounter(s) on a train

I tried to find any rules in the CFR, but I couldn't determine the exact rule that applies to the open platforms. Best guess is that it is an off shoot of the vestibule rules, since they restrict when vestibule doors, traps, and windows can be open, and who can do so. Most of the time, the open...

First LD ride in Coach (LAX-SEA-LAX)

I would recommend a vibration setting.

    Denver bus to SWC?

Been back to daily for more than half a year now.

Why would anyone do such a thing? </sarcasm>

Former Amtrak Employee Pleads Guilty to Theft of 114 Chainsaws

A UP (I think) employee was convicted of stealing and selling locomotive horns, so this isn't surprising to me.

    3 Locos in EB consist

All P42 locomotives are DC motored.

    3 Locos in EB consist

This is the reason. BNSF requires a third unit during winter weather due to snow ingestion in the traction motors.

BNSF Geo Train following Amtrak 4 12/1/21

A GEO car is a track geometry measurement car, used to verify that the track meets certain standards, both internal to the railroad and as part of the federal track classification standards. They can be occasionally seen wandering the various systems of the railroads, and some of them have...

Bus drivers union calls Denver Union Station a "hellhole."

There is an often overlooked fourth portion of the station, the three track Light Rail platform area on the other end of the Bus terminal, next to the BNSF/UP joint line bypass of downtown.

BNSF derailment south of Omaha metro

Rear end collision, current iteration of PTC would likely not have prevented this on its own, since the rear end position of a train is NOT tracked by the PTC system. If this is dark territory, and if the correct dispatching procedure is followed, then a PTC system is supposed to stop a train...

    Starlight Schedule Change

While true, I don't think the current schedule is "Bad," but it is timed for daylight service on the populated portions of the route, which is better, IMHO. This happens to coincide with the beautiful terrain, so I don't see this changing any time soon.

Bus drivers union calls Denver Union Station a "hellhole."

The light rail cars are the ones that don't offer level boarding at all doors, at least in Denver.

    Ridership Survey

My definition of a train is a vehicle that operates on a fixed guideway, and is wider than the direct contact area of the guideway. This excludes the Japanese version of the maglev technology, since the "Train" operates in a bathtub style guideway, where the guideway is wider than the "Train".

Nothing compaired to the Train Mountain Railroad in Oregon, but they are in very different scales... 40 +/- actual miles of track.

    What should Amtrak change?

Well, then lets take the FRA's suggestion and push for Chicago to MSP and St Louis, since those both were identified as being the best not currently undergoing development.
