Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Again, just my understanding of the situation that led up to the structural failure only one ton short of passing...

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Its my understanding that they would need to loose 9 tons, be fully ADA compliant, both down and up stairs, and retain the shape of the passenger compartment in the event of an end on crash.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

The California cars currently in service don’t meet the specifications laid out by the consortium of states.

    Chicago to Florida Auto Train?

Maybe an hour. Time that can also be used for restocking the train.

    Chicago to Florida Auto Train?

Why not load a separate cut of cars in NOL and swap them with those cutting off from either end? Much faster as the train doesn’t need to wait for the cars to be loaded or offloaded. PS, autoracks are cheap compared to passenger cars.

    What would you add?

Short answer, no. There isn’t a reasonable way to increase capacity on the pass. You would need either a new alignment or over a dozen tunnels would need to be changed. Sent from my iPhone using Amtrak Forum

Emp Serv to GCT, LSL NYP Suspended, Other NYP Changes 2018

Take a look at NYC’s existing railroad routes and try to find a routing that doesn’t need a train to turn around enroute to the yard. Edit to add that this is an artifact from the old New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad rivalry. Sent from my iPhone using Amtrak Forum

When it comes to growing Amtrak, what service expansion(s) do you view

Likely single level, as there is a non-zero chance of the CL being converted to single level cars, either due to lack of superliners or due to thru cars to both NYP and Florida. Sent from my iPhone using Amtrak Forum

    EB delays (2/24) for 7 (22) and 8 (22)

Theoretically this would have been possible for the eastbound Amtrak train, as it was stopped in the east glacier siding, which is near the center of the tourist town. The crew could have gone and stayed with one of the local families.

When it comes to growing Amtrak, what service expansion(s) do you view

Lots of times Amtrak sees it as easier to turn the whole set than to turn the locomotive(s) separately from the train and spin the seats. Sent from my iPhone using Amtrak Forum

    EB delays (2/24) for 7 (22) and 8 (22)

Major blizzard near browning, mt that caused major delays and closed almost every road in the area. This caused a problem replacing crews on freights and Amtrak in the area. Sent from my iPhone using Amtrak Forum

Essex, MT to Minneapolis - checked bags?

While the station and town are both rather limited in services, the whole town is basically an auxiliary yard for the railroad, the Inn, and some private cabins, but it is one of the most unique experiences I have ever had. Sent from my iPhone using Amtrak Forum

Essex, MT to Minneapolis - checked bags?

The “station” at ESM is just a platform that is owned by the Izaak Walton Inn. Amtrak provides no services to the station. Sent from my iPhone using Amtrak Forum

Southwest Chief reroute via Wichita and Amarillo?

Technically the Empire Builder and North Coast Limited worked in a similar way to this, running combined from Chicago to Minneapolis and Spokane to Portland. This is also how it worked for the Mainstreeter and the Western Star, the secondary streamliners on the NP and GN. As far as I know, this...

Pacific Parlour Car Permanently Retired February 2018

Please check the numbers on the Empire Builder again, as the train averages ~700 passengers per run utilizing a consist that has a capacity of ~400 passengers. This indicates that most seats are turning over at least once, especially since there is a capacity of only 132 sleeper passengers at a...

Southwest Chief reroute via Wichita and Amarillo?

Not only did they ask, they built a connecting track in part to allow that type of move.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

I think the single level cars should find a home on the San Joaquin trains, especially when they move to the new CAHSR line that is under construction. If I recall correctly, that was one of the stipulations of the federal funds for the high speed project, that Amtrak shift to the line until it...
