Sunset Limited/Texas Eage bridge fires causing service disruptions

The subject of rebuilding the bridge to restore freight traffic brings to mind a similar episode that occurred near my home near Augusta, GA, years ago. (Moderators: the Texas bridge event reminds me of this but this isn’t about the Texas bridge, per se, so move this if you want to. But pls...

    Crescent operations and schedule performance

Good question. Answer: avg delay 1 hr 5 minutes. Median delay: 40 minutes. Not too much difference.

    Crescent operations and schedule performance

MARCrider, you’re right. Larger data sets are always better. So I used ASMAD to check 20 at Clemson for 2/1/2021 (not a typo) to today. Out of 354 data points reported, it was on time 22 times. Dreadful, IMO! 😱 i think we’re all pretty much preaching to the choir here. I’m going back to...

    Crescent operations and schedule performance

As one who must use the Crescent for any Amtrak trip anywhere, I certainly agree the times for Greenville and Clemson (I live midway btwn them) are terrible! But like I said, if I want to take Amtrak, there’s no such thing as an unusable Crescent for me. 😰

Safe places to stay by Los Angeles Union Station (LAUS)

I’ve stayed at the Metro Plaza a couple times. It’s walkable as long as you’re not dragging a steamer trunk. It isn’t fancy but I’ve never thought I was at risk there. I also recall finding some decent simple spots for a quick supper also.

    Crescent operations and schedule performance

Yeah…I think I heard once that Greenville is a Norfolk Southern crew change point. I’ve been there during weekdays a few times recently, just Trainspotting, and there are always nearly a dozen passenger cars parked in the lot with a logo on them. I looked it up. They belong to a company that...

    Crescent operations and schedule performance

Hehe. Shows what I know! I did the detailed look just now for Greenville and you’re right. It does get in early some of the time! Maybe I should switch to using Greenville vs Clemson for my “home station”. I live almost midway btwn them so it could work. Now I’m curious why, if it does get...

    Crescent operations and schedule performance

I did a little more digging on trains 19 and 20 for Clemson, CSN, for the past 30 days. The avg delay southbound, train 19, is around 10-15 minutes. Northbound, train 20, it’s closer to an hour! So there is a difference dep on whether it has already experienced freight traffic south of Atlanta...

    Crescent operations and schedule performance

Thx. Sorta bears out my contention that in general its schedule performance isn’t too great. I did not analyze what I saw in your reference to see if there really is a diff in its weekend vs its weekday performance but I may take a closer look. I’m still curious if freight traffic on weekends...

    Crescent operations and schedule performance

I may not have posted this in the right forum so I apologize in advance if it gets relocated. I apparently am not very good at that part of using this board. I watch the Crescent performance just for fun because it’s the first Amtrak train I’d take going anywhere. Is it my imagination that its...

    The railroad signals discussion

Jovet, Thank you very very much! This is so cool! I even printed the Al Krug materials so I can carry them with me if I go out to see signals for myself!

    Changes to Capitol Limited/Texas Eagle

    Thx. This helps.

    Changes to Capitol Limited/Texas Eagle

I’ve been following this out of curiosity and I think I understand but maybe not. So… if psgrs from Washington to San Antonio must get off while in Chicago, how does what Amtrak is doing amount to anything different for those passengers than if they had booked the two trains separately as...

Progress on my printable timetable generator

Thank you, Mr. Kittle, for these Crescent-specific timetables! As one who rides the Crescent anytime I want to go anywhere on Amtrak, these are extremely helpful to me!

Progress on my printable timetable generator

Nice job! Since I’m a visual learner I appreciate just being able to sit back with a glass of chillable red at my side and peruse an old fashioned analog (I.e., paper and ink!) timetable! 😆

    Hello all

Welcome aboard! I share your desire for a reversion to the mean! A return to more stable conditions, more stable comfortable, predictable Amtrak service. While I truly sympathize and completely understand the problems Amtrak is having these days, as we all are, I still don’t feel totally...

    Greetings

Welcome aboard! I’m also a global train enthusiast! I’d love to compare notes with you on non-US/Canadian trips we’ve taken. See if we’ve done any of the same.

Booking on AGR vs the app

I’m just curious. I don’t have many AGR points at all. I can’t travel any longer like I’ve wanted to all my life. But I’ve got one possible summer trip in mind. My meager points won’t help, but I’d still like to ask this Q. Is there any particular advantage or reason someone in my position...

Gas prices where you are located?

😆 Fair question, AmtrakBlue! I don’t remember. But I do recall a summer job I had in the mid 60s in a paper mill when the full timer I was helping said that the $2.65/hour he was making was all the money he needed! So we need to keep things In perspective!
