Booking question online options not shown

You’re right. I went back and I now see I was misreading the “Sat. July 23” note on the results page I was looking at. That was the date of the arrival in Chi. My bad.

Booking question online options not shown

Just for giggles, I've been playing around online with a trip I'd like to take this summer. Greenville SC - Chicago via Charlottesville and the Cardinal. I could leave GRV Sat July 23, at 2-ish am, for example, connect to the Cardinal in CVS the same morning, and get to CHI on Sun July 24. I...

    Family Bedroom discussion

Ok, what I suspected. There goes that idea! However, since I’ve always believed you win by knowing what not to do, this is a win. Thx.

Ok. Thx. If the “boss” lets me do this trip at all, I’ll be sure to try that!

    Family Bedroom discussion

I think I can tell from the Amtrak description of the family bedroom but I’ll ask to be sure. Are there two full length adult size beds on the “ground floor” or would one full size adult need to be “upstairs”. At our ages, that’s a non-starter for us. Same for the regular bedroom, unfortunately.

Blue, I think you’re right. I’ve found several examples over the years of trip fantasizing of trips I’d thought about starting in CSN and ending many places other than along the Crescent that don’t work online.

Booking question online options not shown

I'm fantasizing about a trip this summer from SC to Santa Fe and back. I'd leave from either Clemson (CSN) or Greenville (GVL) and disembark either at Lamy (LMY) or Albuquerque (ABQ), dep if I wanted to check my steamer trunk, which I could not do either at CSN or LMY. My question now is: I...

    What should Amtrak change?

Definitely agree with #3! Luddite here just wants to sit back in my lazy boy and read the old analog style (aka paper) timetables!

    Where are the sleeper cars?

Are the sleeper cars (on trains that have ‘em of course 😝) always at the rear? When I take the Crescent from Clemson, which is almost a whistle stop, I’m always worried I’ll be waiting on the wrong end of the platform and have to run with my LUGage to get to the sleeper at the other end! Since...

    # 5 and #6 service disruption

Thx for explaining how folks find this kind of info. I’ve seen service disruption postings on Amtrak.com but they never say why. No surprise there. Same reasons why the flight attendants NEVER tell you why your flight is STILL sitting at the gate! 😝

    # 5 and #6 service disruption

Newbie here. Unfamiliar with all the sources of info like what causes a service disruption. In near real time, how does one find out what the cause of a svc disruption is?

    Two hilarious episodes

Not sure if this is what to post here, but since this board is for us rail fans, I’ll share two hilarious episodes I encountered on my trips. On the Zephyr just out of San Francisco, before Sacramento, some years ago, I missed this myself even though I was already in the lounge car when several...

Thank you both! I KNEW someone would know!

    Sleeper accommodation discussion

I swear I used to know the answer to this and I knew how to find the answer too, when I could still pick up one of those analog schedule books and browse it in my recliner! But now I’m stuck. So, since this board obviously has hundreds of members smarter than me, I’ll ask! On the Crescent, I...

All things considered I’d rather be on a train

Thx. I’m excited to compare notes with other rail freaks like me but I don’t know where to just list all the places where I’ve ridden trains, etc.

All things considered I’d rather be on a train

Hi! Lifelong train rider here. I’ve ridden almost all of Amtrak’s long distance trains. I’ve ridden from Berlin to Istanbul to Barcelona on the rail trip of my life. I’d pay cash money to do it all again! I’m overjoyed to be able to share experiences with other rail fans.
