    Getting a TAP card

So I'm making another trip but I'm not passing through Union Station (it's going to be San Joaquins + a thruway bus) before I board LA Metro. I contacted the TAP/Metro service center and was told that if I buy a pass online (I have my card registered) it should work as long as I give it at...

    Booking online on Amtrak website

OK. Got a little bit confused especially since the app only has a single place to enter a coupon or discount code, but then it has this weird "add" button if one needs to enter several of them together. But then it's frustrating because the website doesn't just reject the discount code, but...

    Booking online on Amtrak website

I've been trying to book a trip from Anaheim to Emeryville using the Pacific Surfliner V712 discount code. They also have a 5% discount on Disneyland admission, but that's neither here nor there. https://www.pacificsurfliner.com/offers/promotions/save-on-disneyland/ I've tried entering it...

    Booking online on Amtrak website

The website seems all wonky. I can't enter certain discount codes, because they seem to break the ability to bring up choices. And the multi-city (add trip option) also seems to create a situation where "Find Train" goes light colored where I can't really click on it.

    Booking online on Amtrak website

I'm thinking of making a trip but I've been having way too many issues trying to use the V712 code for trips to/from Anaheim. I can't seem to get it working on the website. But it has been working on the iPad version of the app. Not ready to book yet, but it's been weird.

Various payment systems used by transit agencies

Did a little research, and the tokens are still valid. At MUNI Metro stations, they just need to be used at a ticket machine and apparently the fireboxes recognize them. https://www.sfmta.com/fares/single-ride-discount Tokens Tokens are only available to non-profit/government organizations for...

Various payment systems used by transit agencies

I remember the days when there was officially a 90 minute transfer window, but some vehicle operators would set the transfer tear-off mount well in advance so it didn't need to be adjusted. I received some that were still valid for 6 hours. Some would just hand out an all day transfer. I do...

Various payment systems used by transit agencies

With a system like San Francisco MUNI, all the options can be really confusing. Those pay parking style machines could sell one-way tickets/receipts, but then the 120 minutes start as soon as the machine spits out the receipt. I'm not sure what incentive a passenger has to get that, other than...

Various payment systems used by transit agencies

Santa Clara County's VTA has a daily cap now that's tied into the Clipper fare card system. However, they also have a 2 hour window only that's good for their light rail, as well as an 8-hour light-rail-only pass. I remember using them with Clipper and I used it like San Francisco MUNI and got...

Various payment systems used by transit agencies

San Francisco MUNI has that on their buses, streetcars and light rail (when it's not operating as a subway train). They have readers at all doors. However. they still have paper receipts as well as the Clipper fare card. And of course the passports that include cable car rides. But the...

Various payment systems used by transit agencies

I guess a lot of different transit agencies have gone to this over the years, including rail transit (not sure how it fits into a neat category). I suppose the idea is that the vehicle operator isn't necessarily the gatekeeper, especially where getting on at another door may make it easier to...

San Francisco Chronicle reporters attempt to ride all 27 Bay Area transit agencies in a day

They finally missed one agency due to delays and had to get creative. But they did meet up with a falconer at a BART station. He’s been hired to scare off pigeons.

San Francisco Chronicle reporters attempt to ride all 27 Bay Area transit agencies in a day

OK - I'm thinking most might hit a paywall. However, here's an interesting tidbit, where they seemed to consider Amtrak Thruway to be another transit agency. 11:40 a.m. We're on Amtrak line 7 heading to Napa. (That's 10 transit agencies down.) Our driver, Andrew, suggested getting on the Wine...

It’s an odd paywall that sometimes doesn’t ask.

San Francisco Chronicle reporters attempt to ride all 27 Bay Area transit agencies in a day

This includes rail, so I'm not sure if it neatly fits into non-rail or commuter rail. This is ongoing and they're updating it as it goes. Right now they seem to be on SMART to Santa Rosa, which I guess would be needed to get them to link up to Santa Rosa's bus system...

Any recommendations for Hong Kong transportation to/from airport?

Found out that they ended up taking a taxi. Sigh.
