Transport Companys' handling of Daylight Saving Time

Churches were (and still are) grouped around a central green in small towns and their steeples typically had one or more clocks. Most people couldn't afford a watch so these clocks and their chimings were the available timepieces. However, the clocks rarely agreed with each other, so you would...

    Chicago

We have a four-hour layover midday in Chicago early in November, then a six-hour layover on a Sunday late in the same month, this time encompassing the evening meal time. We love really well made food, American or especially ethnic. Where can we (ideally) walk to from the station for lunch and...

    Dinner tonight on SW Chief

Thanks so much! Reviews are saying it keeps things cool, not cold. Is that your experience?

Could you suggest a 120v electric cooler bag? All I see are 12v.

We're going Springfield MA to Oakland. I've been watching those videos and getting all excited! I used to ride Amtrak in the Hudson valley and learned to sit on the west side of the train to get the best views. Maybe Denver to CA is totally amazing on both sides.

I've booked a RT California Zephyr trip for hubby and me in a roomette. We've done the Viewliner roomette so we pretty much know what we're getting into. However, I'd love to know the exact dimensions of the closet, as he's considering getting some sort of travel guitar. Or he'll want to have...

Talgo selects site in Milwaukee to build trains!

I'm so jealous of the states that get the Talgo! What a cool train. I rode a Talgo Pendular in Spain back in the '80's and it was so smooth and lovely.

How far do seats recline in roomettes?

I'm beginning to figure out how to put together a multi-stop cross-country trip, complete with sleeping accommodations. I've looked at the virtual tours of the Viewliner roomettes, but cannot for the life of me see how the seats recline. They seem to have their backs up against a wall and not a...

There are certain things you just have to do before your time is up on this earthly sphere, and taking a cross-country trip on trains, complete with sleeping accommodations, is one of them. Back in the '70's I did Amtrak from New York to Florida to Chicago to LA to San Francisco.... all in...
