Oh no, there's a train 78? What will happen to the deadhead NPN-RVR #78 on Fridays?

What are the best spots to railfan from Chemult, OR to Eugene, OR? Is it possible to chase the Coast Starlight up/down the pass, preferably #14? Thanks for any answers, I'm of course assuming that the track is open when I'm there.

Ah, I did misunderstand that.

Amtrak still runs extra sections on the Pacific Surfliner when a train going through LA is late. For example, if 782 is an hour late into LA, Amtrak will depart an 'on-time' 782 from LA, and the original late one continue south as 584. It works because there are frequent Surfliner departures.

They're just going to get late again pretty much immediately. The Auto Train doesn't have consistent, large delays en route (I think) so it works. The delays currently aren't large enough that force them to depart NYP late.

The Superliner car used to be right behind the cab car, in coach class, but nowadays it sits adjacent to the Business Class Car (2 cars down from the engine), also business class, giving the train 2 business class cars. I don't know what happens when the Superliner is next to the cab now...

It looks like #11 arrives Eugene at its timetabled 5:03pm, then turns back north as #14 to pick up all the passengers, often 6-7 hours late. Maybe they should put some passengers on #508 Cascades instead? It would arrive into Seattle at 10:50pm, not around 1:00am.

Let's see if we can get this to a thousand posts before #449 leaves Boston tomorrow.

That #1 probably had an extra day to turn around from the inbound #2, which is usually late, and miraculously didn't get delayed more.
