Same here with three sleeper coast to coast trips in December, January, and February... when mid winter ridership allows availability ... although I've had to 'flex myself' to pay high buckets on many segments. Along with that I know to pack a lot of patience and flexibility... food and drink...

Nor should you have to put up with this. On my own thoughts... when downgraded I would either go to the station manager or call immediately. If a train is running excessively late I call both Amtrak and the affected hotel so I can either cancel the hotel or have Amtrak give me credit for it...

Amtrak's future will indeed be determined in large extent on how they are navigating this crisis. Do travel when you can and enjoy the whistle over the hum of the tracks. That is here now. A good opportunity to create memories for tomorrow.

They should have given you wine which they usually have at the cafe car. No doubt you've been wronged; when the Attendant said there wasn't any wine, they may have not considered the cafe? Anyway you were wronged and should anticipate the compensation will be far greater than the lack of meal...

Don't forget to ask for compensation for the disruption of your travel plans... which you indeed deserve!

Yes... but frankly I would be quite miffed if there was no food boarded for an overnight trip of that doesn't arrive til 3pm the next day. Did they at least allow you food from the cafe car??? That would certainly be a big factor!

Hi Michigan Mom! Just booked the CONO for February both to and from Chicago... was able to get a mid bucket rate on a room; and always order the kosher meals which seem to offer a little more than the flex; are average quality but they do fill me up; and like you I enjoy bringing my own snacks...

For some reason the CONO has problems boarding meals... that shouldn't be especially in Chicago from which departs at around 8 LD depending on the day.
