    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Actually after all is said and done, the recent improvements on LD dining in the West has been pretty good except that they took out the carrot cake with that dreamy creamy white icing; my favorite thing on the menu. Why oh why did they do that? Do you think we can introduce a bill in congress...

No better place than on a train to celebrate your 62nd birthday young guy! I remember my celebrating my 62nd birthday more than a decade ago and still feel just as good now as I did then... am still training... and with a backpack!

    Amtrak executives receive bonuses

Management inefficiency and lack of investment, updating, upgrading, maintaining, and perhaps just 'attitude' is severely degrading this semi regulated transportation company. Time and again we look and compare with Brightline, and the new European privately funded lines now competing with lower...

    Amtrak executives receive bonuses

Maybe these execs can do something to increase revenue by making bookings more affordable and doable. Was on the phone yesterday attempting to put together another cross country trip... waited 45 minutes to get through to the 'executive' agents. Then after about another two hours struggling to...

Good to know... that burger is tasty and filling and I often make that my choice for dinner. Of course it's nothing compared to an 'authentic' Texas BBQ burger smothered with sauce!

But I wonder how they were able to make the burgers on the CZ without the grill working? Gosh if they just microwaved them they would be mushy... not good!

The two most important things when problems; document carefully, and be polite and appreciative with the customer service agent who's trying to help you... I have found it works just about every time... and you actually do get a bit [or a lot] more in compensation.

    Amtrak executives receive bonuses

Ya gotta spend those taxpayer dollars on something... give it to the top brass. Regardless of their job performance. And Amtrak ain't doing well or are we missing something??? Meanwhile the little people such as myself struggle with medicare and social security... and keep shelling out those...

Planning a December trip! (Discussing SWC/CZ schedule performance etc.)

Good to plan in lots of flexibility... especially with local frequent running trains.

Planning a December trip! (Discussing SWC/CZ schedule performance etc.)

It all looks good re your reservation... but if and when things go wrong with delays or etc, you can find yourself in a lot of hot water... reliant upon good res people who can make a vast difference in what happens next. The biggest problem with Amtrak travel is that there is very little...

Document everything with photos if possible. No food? No excuse, Amtrak! Be prepared to politely ask for a refund.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Oh! My! Gosh! Be sure to contact customer service at the conclusion of your trip; and although you may be feeling angry, politely discuss your displeasure with unacceptable food service you paid big bucks for. You may not get a full refund, but such a big problem with the food should be worth...

I so agree with you! And have been ordering the kosher meals which is a little more food in volume and variety; but mediocre quality. I do bring along my own comfort foods such as fritos and chips... lots of fruit, cookies, and 'happy juice' allowable in your own room. Also when boarding in NYP...

It's always a good idea to bring some of your own food to supplement 'flex' dining which is monotonous, poor quality, and small portions. Every once in a while you'll find someone who thinks flex passable... but most don't like it and can't wait for freshly prepared full service meals to return...

    Tipping on Amtrak

Attitude is always a big factor IMHO... if the attendant is rude, grumpy, barking at me for this or that [as so many times on the Cardinal] I find it hard to pull a $20 out of my pocket and hand it over. I've done that once or twice then felt really violated. Conversely it's always a happy...

    Empire Service business class

On an upcoming trip I booked several segments on the NEC... on trains where BUS requires a preassigned seat number you don't get to move around... but in coach class where seat numbers are not assigned you have the option of the quiet car and / or other cars so you can distance yourself from...

A Day Trip on the Eaglete

Ok... I gotta chime in with a really true story of an indulgent memory of Bourbon Pecan Pie with real pecan ice cream. Back in my college days in northern Wisconsin, I remember treating myself to a day long round trip on the NP Gopher to MSP just to ride the rails as the rain swirled around the...

Who in the world are you?

You have that very precious commodity called 'youth!' Youth is being able to move adeptly with all those muscles and joints all working quite well... plus the time to expand your intellectual capabilities towards whatever you dream for your career. Then the 50's bring middle age... the sum of...

A Day Trip on the Eaglete

Oh my... I'm fired up just at knowing you'll enjoy that ride for all of us! Is that an original CONO car just in front of what appears to be you looking out the window as yer sipping champaign in the Presidential Lounge Car???

A Day Trip on the Eaglete

Oh my... what a rail fan's dream! Ya got my mouth watering for eating in that elegant dining car and smelling the nostalgic aroma of the smoke from the engine wafting by! Yer gonna have a very very fun rail trip! You have definitely motivated me to get up and rail running once again; I...
