Checking up on Amtrak's (lack of) ADA compliance

On the topic of Sanderson specifically, I noticed when passing through on #1 last month that an entirely new platform is under construction, which is somewhat surprising considering how little ridership there is there.

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

80% is relative to the cap so really means 40% of seats are occupied. The scenery from Glenwood Springs to Green River isn't as good as Denver to Glenwood Springs, but it's still very interesting and includes Ruby Canyon near the state line.

Most scenic parts of Amtrak routes traversed during the night?

I would nominate the EB in Montana, Idaho, and Washington. All of the western LDs pass through interesting areas at night, although scenic is a subjective term. There are also routes such as the CL and Cardinal which pass through the scenic areas at night in one direction but not the other...

#21 of 9/04 Running 9+Hours Late in Texas

According to a post I saw on Facebook the 421 passengers are being taken off 21 in Fort Worth and sent on a bus to San Antonio.

    Positive Train Control (PTC) installed?

Most MARC trains use diesel locomotives, including those that operate entirely on the NEC. According to Wikipedia, they have 46 locomotives, with only 6 of those being electric.

    Self-defense (on train)?

Weapons including knifes are not allowed on Amtrak, as you mention. While the odds of anyone knowing you have it are minimal if it's in a sealed bag, in the event a random search was conducted you could be removed from the train. While unlikely, that is far more likely than any situation where a...

Chicago Travel Order - 14 day quarantine

There is essentially no enforcement of the quarantine in Chicago and while there are signs in Union Station, they are easy to miss and don't list the states. I just got off the SWC today and there were no announcements about the quarantine and few passengers were aware. Honestly if you behave...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

Texas to Washington should work fine with same day connections. The issue is the return, where an overnight would be required in Chicago (assuming you are going via Chicago). If you were going via New Orleans, the single night connection between the SL and Crescent will no longer exist.

    Amtrak Service Reductions

It seems to prioritize maintaining connections over all else. I didn't look at it from a crew perspective but it also makes little sense to me that there are 9 weekly departures from the NEC to Chicago which all occur on the same 3 days. For the Cleveland to Chicago portion, there are 6 weekly...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

I added a few posts to the Service Reductions thread that describe the changes; those probably belong in the same thread as this. As to only blocking sleeper sales, maybe this is a way of proving that the changes are for real while not officially canceling anything in the hope that Congress will...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

The CS would depart Los Angeles on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This would allow for tri-weekly connections from the SL and two weekly connections from the SWC. In addition, tri-weekly connections would be maintained from the CZ to northbound CS and from the northbound CS to the EB at...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

The updated CL schedule would connect once per week to the SM and twice per week to the SS. Do the lack of a guaranteed connection from the SS to the CL or LSL, there would only be one weekly connection from the SM to the CL and LSL for the Florida to Midwest market. The Crescent appears to...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

The SWC and EB appear to both arrive and depart Chicago on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. This would allow tri-weekly connections from both trains in both connections to the LSL and CL. Three weekly connections would also be available from the Cardinal westbound, with two being available...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

Interestingly, the reservation system is now blocking off new reservations on certain days starting October 1st in sleeping cars, but coach seats are still available. Not all routes are modified yet in the system but I've started to go through and figure out the new schedule assuming that is the...

Amtrak 5 and 6 via Wyoming

The eastbound is now terminating in Grand Junction and the westbound is terminating in Denver so there may not be any more detours occuring.

    Amtrak Service Reductions

That's why I mentioned the CS specifically. Since the start of the pandemic, both 11 at LAX and 14 at SEA have a median arrival time before the scheduled time.

    Amtrak Service Reductions

Amtrak just released their criteria for re-establishing service which implies they are moving forward with the tri-weekly plan in the absence of government assistance. The document also mentions attempting to preserve connections in Chicago, so perhaps they are planning on having the schedules...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

This is a unique situation due to the extremely low ridership. For example, assume that a daily train produces 3 times as many passengers as a tri-weekly train. Perhaps the daily train has an annual ridership of 300,000 in comparison to 100,000, so it would make sense that the daily train may...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

Projections for FY21 do factor in the virus, so I doubt the projections would be anywhere near 32.5 million. Unless someone has access to the projections it is difficult to project the feasibility of meeting them. However, as I mentioned I seriously doubt the requirement for future bookings will...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

It's 90% of pre-virus ridership. Although the percentage accounts for the reduced seat availability, that's the condition I think is very unlikely to be met. The decision is to be made in February, which is still winter and thus likely to occur during a second virus wave if one is to occur. As...
