    Covid Mask Mandate for Transportation

The Amtrak website hasn't been updated to change the guidance yet, but Amtrak is no longer requiring masks according to the articles below. https://wtop.com/coronavirus/2022/04/despite-ruling-masks-still-required-on-metro-amtrak-and-airlines-loosen-restrictions/...

    Changes to Capitol Limited/Texas Eagle

Does anyone know how yesterday's 21 departed Chicago on time? 29 was multiple hours late and ended up arriving after 21 departed.

Michigan City, Indiana station closing 4/4/2022

The Blue Water passes through the station. It might be the Pere Marquette you're thinking of, which does use different tracks through Michigan City.

    Changes to Capitol Limited/Texas Eagle

This doesn't really change your point, but the SWC is less than 2,500 miles, as are the the EB and CZ.

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

Could they just not sell tickets on any cars that are beyond the platform? For example, with the current SS consist that is 2 cars too long, they could just not sell space into Miami for the last sleeper (since the other car would be the baggage car). Given that the train is discharge only south...

    $66 billion for Amtrak

The "public operating funding per new passengers" is the operating subsidy divided by the passengers added. It would be an advantage to have a lower number since that would indicate a more efficient route.

    Wolverine Service Operations

Every time I have seen the Pere Marquette it has only had one locomotive. I have only used it once, but on that trip the train was turned at a wye just after dropping off the passengers at the Grand Rapids station.

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

The Pere Marquette also uses Superliners.

Winter Park (Colorado) Express is back

Yes, it stops just west of the western portal of the Moffat Tunnel, which is basically right at the bottom of a few of the slopes.

Amtrak long term service cancellations and restorations (2022-2023H1)

There is a guaranteed connection from the CL to the SS, so no overnight is required in Washington. There isn't a guaranteed connection in the reverse direction though.

    Starlight Schedule Change

The connection is still guaranteed and bookable from the westbound SWC to the CS. The CS to SL connection in both directions is also guaranteed. It just took some time for Amtrak to update the system after the schedule change.

    Sunset Limited and Phoenix

Where did you get that information? Per the 2019 ridership stats provided by RPA, La Junta, Raton, and Lamy all have higher ridership than either Dodge City or Garden City. Trinidad and Las Vegas are not far behind either. Also, Raton had higher ridership in 2019 than either 2017 or 2018 and is...

VIA Black Friday sale has started

I'm kind of confused by the cancellation policy since I have never been on VIA before. It is mentioned that the tickets are fully refundable if cancelled before December 31, but it looks like that excludes certain fees which constitute nearly half of the ticket price. I was hoping to book...

    Rude Employees

Regarding the lounge seating closing at night, that has been my experience every trip I have taken on the Cardinal specifically as far back as 2017. Due to limited seating, I have also been told that only customers making purchases can sit in the lounge on the LSL during my past few trips, as...

Amtrak potential service reduction due to staff shortage

I also have a trip planned and it is definitely very difficult to make adjustments at this point. It seems certain that the cuts are going to happen, but we still don't know how severe they will be in terms of the routes impacted or much each route be reduced.

Amtrak potential service reduction due to staff shortage

Are there any more details, such as whether the same set of routes as last time are impacted and whether the departure dates will be the same?

Amtrak potential service reduction due to staff shortage

Regarding the potential service reductions, I'm curious why all LD services would be reduced to tri-weekly. If it is strictly because of crew shortages, it seems doubtful that they would be uniform on each route or that they would all warrant a service reduction of over 50%. Even 5 days weekly...

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

I don't think that the frequency of the route can change due to the requirement for daily service in the aid bill. As far as the consist of the EB, not much can change there either. As I previously mentioned, the Portland section can not have less than two coaches as long as it retains baggage...
