    American Journeys by Rail...

The Sunset Limited wasn't extended from New Orleans to Miami until 1993. It was later cut back to the Orlando area in 1996.

Clifton Forge VA AMTRAK refueling stop also?

No, the only place the Cardinal refuels between Chicago and Washington is at a CSX yard just west of Ashland, Kentucky.

    More Amtrak Service In Ohio?

This plan is separate from the CL and LSL, but it appears likely daily service will return. If the current House stimulus proposal passes, daily service must be restored within 90 days of passing.

    Amtrak Cascades Service

Those numbers are for each direction, and also exclude LD service sharing the route.

    Amtrak Cascades Service

Normal service frequency is 2 trains Eugene-Portland, 4 Portland-Seattle, and 2 Seattle-Vancouver. The current reduced schedule only has 1 train Eugene-Seattle and nothing north of there.

Masks now required even in private room with door closed.

The new law does not have an exemption for private Amtrak rooms, so Amtrak can no longer explicitly say that you can remove your mask inside a private room. However, I seriously doubt they are doing checks when the curtains are closed, and even if they were you could just put a mask on when they...

SWC3 in Long Term Service Disruption in ABQ

It was likely coming from the shops in Beech Grove. When significant maintenance is required, corridor equipment is often transported there via deadheading on revenue trains through Chicago.

Amtrak Alerts train #1 from Orlando

No, there was a derailment in Alabama in 1993 but service was not discontinued until 2005. Service was initially suspended due to Hurricane Katrina, but the route was reopened for freight, so the infrastructure is there for trains from Jacksonville to New Orleans. However, at this point the...

Do we really need HSR for LD?

Which flyover are you referring to? The only at-grade diamond crossing I can think of on the LSL route within Chicago is the CN near the Chicago River Bridge, which doesn't see an excessive amount of traffic and would be difficult to build a flyover at given the close proximity of the river...

SWC3 in Long Term Service Disruption in ABQ

According to the Amtrak Alerts Twitter page, there is a disabled freight train ahead.

Return to daily service, Feb 15 decision time

I agree the best way to get service restored is via the relief bill. It is kind of odd that it was left out. Considering that the bill is intended to be immediate aid and there is supposed to be follow up aid for recovery, maybe he intentionally wants to limit intercity travel options until...

    Late Texas Eagle/422(02)

With the holidays having passed I wouldn't be surprised to see some routes meeting the COVID hospitalization condition. Most routes also seem to be maintaining relatively high occupancy relative to the capacity. However, given current uncertainties it seems likely that few if any routes will...

    Crescent Scenery

It's not a particularly scenic route but there are nice spots. There are views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and a few high bridges in Virginia. There are also some mountain views in North Georgia near Toccoa. On approach to New Orleans, there is the very long bridge over Lake Ponchartrain...

    Sightseer lounge open on TE/SWC/CZ/EB?

It is open on the routes that are still running with one. That definitely includes the CZ, but I think the TE is running without a sightseer lounge right now.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

They're intended primarily for the San Joaquins so will not normally operate to San Jose.

Are they shutting down the NEC (or parts of it) next week?

It may be because of the proximity of the First Street Tunnel (used only by trains entering and leaving Virginia) to the Capitol.

Amtrak Special for the Inauguration (1/19/2021)

I doubt it; even if trains don't stop there they would still have to travel through the 1st Street Tunnel almost directly under the Capitol and would need to change engines at Union Station. I'm thinking that if there is no service to Union Station there would no be service through any stops in...

Historical Discussion: Cities with two or more Amtrak stations

That "rule" has not been entirely eliminated, although it is now applied in less cases than it previously was. For example, Amtrak still does not sell tickets for 91 and 97 on the Tri-Rail corridor or between Chicago and Homewood in either direction.

Amtrak Special for the Inauguration (1/19/2021)

Biden will not be taking Amtrak for the inauguration due to the security risk. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/01/13/politics/biden-amtrak-inauguration-security/index.html
