Historical Discussion: Cities with two or more Amtrak stations

No, EWR Station is within city limits. Most but not all of the airport terminal is as well.

Rerouting the Lake Shore Limited/Capitol Limited over the NICTD/South Shore Line

It may experience fewer delays, but the travel time would be much longer with current infrastructure. Including the backup move that would be required to reach Union Station, it would probably take close to two and a half hours, relative to the hour and a half via the Norfolk Southern Line. The...

Historical Discussion: Cities with two or more Amtrak stations

Actually, the current Amtrak station is not in Hialeah. It is in the census designated place of West Little River. The Miami Airport station is not in Miami either; it is in an unincorporated area.

Arriving at chicago- Back into station or pull in?

Aside from the CONO, Illini, and Saluki, most trains pull forward into the station. However, trains on some other routes will sometimes back in if running early.

    Worst Passenger Rail Experience Ever?

My worst experience was in January 2018 at the end of my first cross-country trip. I had started in Orlando, with overnight stops in Denver, Glenwood Springs, San Francisco, Seattle, and Whitefish. The final segment was Whitefish to Tampa with transfers in Chicago and Washington. Almost...

Amtrak has the worst departure times in STL

Where did you get that data? Chicago has more ridership than all the other stations combined, which is impossible. Maybe it's showing annual ridership at Chicago and monthly ridership elsewhere. Aside from Chicago, the relative riderships seem about right.

    New DOT Secretary?

If you're going to factor in stops for the car trip, you should also include travel time to and from the stations for the train trip. While train stations tend to be more centrally located than airports, not everyone is going downtown and there will be some additional travel time regardless...

Possible Supplemental funding for Amtrak in COVID relief

RPA indicated that this would be sufficient to restore daily LD service, although I'm unclear if that is required with the funding, whether it has been stated by Amtrak management, or if it is just wishful thinking.

    Stephen Gardner new Amtrak president

The 750 mile rule is based off of the distance traveled, not straight-line distance. The straight-line distance from Chicago to DC is 594 miles, but the CL is still an LD train.

    Wolverine reduced-service question

I doubt Amtrak is not guaranteeing it because of a risk of a missed connection. Sometimes Amtrak just seems to forget that certain connections are possible.

    Stephen Gardner new Amtrak president

If you moved the northbound SM to 11 AM going north as you recommend, Miami would be at 2 AM, Washington would be at 1 AM and NYC would be at 5 AM. There would also no longer be convenient connections to the CL or LSL. While there are improvements that can be made to the schedules, not all...

    Election results and Amtrak

A former Amtrak president seems confident that Biden will support the LD network: https://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/2020/11/09-former-amtrak-ceo-says-biden-knows-value-of-national-network The combination of the fact that he used a campaign train that utilized LD routes and stations and...

    First time on Amtrak

I think the idea of the tents is that you are only enclosed with those at your table.

    First time on Amtrak

If you take the Capitol Limited from Toledo you would be in a Superliner, whereas the Lake Shore Limited uses Amfleets and Viewliners. Either way you would be in a Superliner west of Chicago. Also, keep in mind all three routes are currently running tri-weekly, although they are all scheduled...

Lake Shore Limited NYP to Chicago

They have many sleeping cars that are currently sitting in yards, so the issue isn't that Amtrak has a shortage but instead that they're choosing not to use them at present. There are also additional Viewliner cars currently being delivered, so there should be less of an issue of sleeper...

Amtrak’s own numbers show LD trains holding their own

I don't know about the actual reservations, but upper level access is much more important on a Superliner than commuter car since that is the only way to access the dining and lounge cars.

Amtrak funding request (NY Times article Oct 21)

Flynn also said if they receive the full amount that the process of resuming daily service would begin immediately rather than waiting until at least February.

Amtrak's Timetables Now Showing the Days of the Week They Operate

It was the train that New Orleans October 13th; I bought the tickets on October 4th but I remember searching and seeing the current schedule about a week before that when planning the trip.

Amtrak's Timetables Now Showing the Days of the Week They Operate

Since the reduced schedule started I took the northbound out of Atlanta on a Tuesday, so it appears the new timetable and Arrow are accurate (which is what I would have expected anyway).

Amtrak's Timetables Now Showing the Days of the Week They Operate

For most state-supported services, it would just be a matter of deleting columns, since most of the trains still operating remain on their original schedules. The states may have some input, but I can't imagine why virtually every state with state-supported services which oppose providing...
