    Pets on Long Distance Trains

Never been to NYP, but at WAS I just take Trooper out the front door and pee him on the grass. Have to watch out for drug needles, though. It might seem easy to set up a federal service dog registry, but that would entail a whole new department within, say, DOJ (which administers the ADA) and...

    Pets on Long Distance Trains

That is inexcusable! Conductors and attendants should never let that happen. But they are human and can get distracted. I've found the best thing to do is ask the attendant to watch out for us and stay within their sight. I try to make sure to tell the conductors where I am getting off to...

    Compensation for Amtrak Cancellation

"Human pissedoffness" is probably a better term.

Resumption of Amtrak service to Canada (2022-2023 Q2)

I am blind as a bat. Yes, it's still there, and I apologize for casting aspersions! Anyway, thanks very much for the advice. Especially for that terrific map. I'll be overnighting in Seattle and catching the Builder the next day to Glenview IL.

Resumption of Amtrak service to Canada (2022-2023 Q2)

The other day I posted asking the best way (taxi, Uber?) to get from Vancouver's cruise terminal to the VIA Rail station after a cruise for an Amtrak bus trip to Seattle. The post disappeared for some reason. Anyone have an answer?

Crossing border to Seattle from Vancouver

In early July I'll be getting off a cruise ship in Vancouver BC. What's the best way to get from the cruise terminal to the VIA Rail station for a bus to Seattle's Amtrak station? Taxi? Uber? Lyft? I don't suppose there's a bus from terminal to station.

    Airplane breakdowns

Well, msn.com is a general-audience medium and airliners.net is attuned to aviation enthusiasts. Unlikely that the average msn.com reader would know what a winglet is. Either headline tells the story.

    Redemption Email

So Amtrak redeemed itself by sending apology emails to those who got redemption emails? Sounds about right.

Hierarchy between commercial airline crews and ships' crews

    Naval tanks are fictional, too.

    Travel with walker/unmanned station question

I use a rollator (a wheeled walker with a seat) as well as a service dog and have had no difficulty. Except once at Glenview when my Empire Builder sleeper attendant failed to show and the alert attendant in the next car came down to open the door for me. There was a moment when I was sure the...

Hierarchy between commercial airline crews and ships' crews

Interestingly, the FAA uses "Pilot in Command" instead of "Captain." I am studying for the Part 107 Unmanned Aerial System certificate and have noticed that.

Critique my hotel thoughts for Emeryville and Seattle

Your hotel choices are excellent. I have stayed in both, and have made a reservation at the Seattle Embassy Suites for June, when I will be busing from Seattle to Vancouver and an Alaskan cruise. Both hotels have been very accommodating to my service dog.

Canada coast to coast dream trip

I took the Canadian several times pre-Prestige, and each time the front seats in the Park dome were taken over by squatters who left their books and coats on the seats to mark possession. My wife wouldn't let me bellyache to the attendant. Last month I attempted to book the accessible room in...

Videos out the window, advice needed

If you are using a smartphone, hold it up to the window, almost touching, to block out reflections. If you are using a camera whose lens has a screw thread for filters, get a rubber lens hood of the proper size. Press the hood against the window and all reflections will be blocked out.

Videos out the window, advice needed

If you hava a zoom lens, use a wide-angle rubber lens hood. That will avoid unwanted vignetting.

    Hotels In Emeryville?

An agent at Glenwood Springs in the '90s told me that she sometimes drove passengers on a late train to their hotel in her own car, and asked me not to write about it because Amtrak would come down on her head. So I didn't, until now. She's long retired. There ARE people at Amtrak who go above...

H Rooms available to passengers with no disability?

I've used the accessible room quite a few times, first scoring it a few days before train time, and now as a legitimate gimp who uses a rollator and employs a service dog. I do miss going up to the Sightseer Lounge on the Zephyr, but can't have everything.

    Hotels In Emeryville?

I've stayed in that Hyatt several times and enjoyed it immensely. Each time I asked for a room overlooking the station and got it. If you are a photographer, take a long lens to capture the train action from up high.

H Rooms available to passengers with no disability?

Just for the record: The H room is now the Accessible Bedroom (and smoke stops are now fresh-air stops). The crews will be using the "correct" terminology by about, oh, 2050.
