Has that been a common occurrence recently? Wondering if I should keep my eye out for a 330 roomette - the lower-level one is gone now, though I’d really prefer upper.

That would be 4 less rooms - so if the Transdorm is fully occupied, 4 passengers would have to be kicked out if they substituted a regular sleeper. Or am I missing something.

The crew has to sleep somewhere, though - aren’t there less total rooms?

I’d prefer upper level for views, and convienence of the transdorm vs lower-level regular sleeper seems pretty even (both have same-level shower, but require going either up stairs/through the next car for coffee or the diner/lounge). My only concern is if Amtrak were to substitute a regular...

Just booked the SWC for 9/24 on my way to the Gathering as a roomette became available. Turns out it’s in the transdorm - hope there’s no issue with that. Though I will be keeping the flight as a backup - not ideal, but works in my case.

If you try to book a train on the affected days, it will show 350 and 355 as canceled.

According to a post on Trainorders and as reflected by the reservation system, Wolverine trains 350 and 355 have been canceled August 29th-September 16th due to a shortage of equipment. This is the first train out of Chicago and the last train into Chicago.

Does anyone have a good webcam for watching Wolverine trains? It would be useful to be able to tell which trains are running Venture cars at the moment. Hoping to do a trip in October and want to make sure I’m on the right train.

That would still allow switching between sleepers when a through sleeper is unavailable. Now, you don’t even get the through fare for that when it is offered through normal one-way/round trip booking.

Yeah - when I was looking at Empire Builder itineraries split between 28/8 (because 8 was sold out), it was giving me pricing higher than the highest bucket I saw on either train direct. I was going to call and see if they could do something to get through pricing, but a roomette on 8 opened up...

I checked online, but I’m only seeing the 40% off points through September 30th now on both the app and website. Seems they may have fixed it, unfortunately.

The tracks to TC pass over the Amtrak/MDOT line on a bridge, but do not connect.

The challenge there is that the Ann Arbor Railroad which this train runs on to Ann Arbor currently is not connected to the MDOT/Amtrak tracks leading to Detroit. They would have to build a new connection in order to serve Detroit.

Ultimately I did just tell them to look up the station codes, and they basically responded “wow, guess I can book a ferry!”

Did you have two people booked in two bedrooms and were switched to a single bedroom? That would explain why you still get meals - two people in a single bedroom are both entitled to meals.
