That should be an interesting detour - I’m planning to be in SoCal around that time, so may have to see if I can work that in. Wonder what the plans for long distance trains are - could they all terminate a station early with a bus connection?

Looks like the track will be out a week or more. Not good for Thanksgiving travel - wondering if they’ll run buses or just issue refunds and leave ticket holders to find their own alternative transportation (a tough task on Thanksgiving week). Or is there a detour they can do...

I think those proposing a Thruway bus are suggesting one from Detroit Amtrak to Windsor VIA (and the reverse), not Detroit to Toronto. That’s just a few miles.

I was looking at the soon-to-be-discontinued VIA app, and it turns out if you set your device’s date ahead you can look at prices for (and maybe even book) trains more than 11 months in advance. Looked later in October 2024, and found the fares drop on November 1, not October 15.

They’re also discontinuing the mobile app when the new reservation system is activated until the new mobile app is ready. Annoying.
