    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

What's the source of the image in the previous post? I've not seen one like it before. Its $800 summation differs from my previous low bucket estimate by only $19, but after a bit of searching found that Arrow offered Roomette fares of $800 and $898 as the two lowest buckets. Will update the...

    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Something seems goofy here: this reported $519 fare is $7 LESS than the old low bucket 1 adult Roomette fare offered last year before the most recent fare increase. FWIW, about 7 hours after your post, Arrow shows your fare to be $898 for 1 adult in a Roomette on 15 Jan LAX - NOL. I'm...

For the whole route, check the possibilities (some [estimated]) on the last chart here: https://www.amtraktrains.com/threads/long-distance-train-coach-sleeper-fares-buckets.77062/page-7 It indicates either could be the less expensive depending on the day of travel and a good bit of luck with...

A quick look at the fare bucket chart indicates the CONO is your only option as a senior traveling the whole route - unless you modify your rule of thumb or shorten your trip..

Roomettes on this train have eight different fares (buckets). The two you mentioned were the highest. In contrast, the two lowest fares (buckets) are $628 and $695. Howsomever, that doesn't mean those two lowest fares are offered. FWIW, found a $775 fare offered for travel on 12 July after...

Departing from a different station to that ticketed

IIRC, if you don't get on the train at the station on your ticket, there's a strong likelihood you'll be counted as a no-show and your ticket will be invalidated. Suspect you need to call Amtrak (preferably Guest Rewards) and explain the situation.

Up until 9 Nov 2024 the high bucket for a Bedroom on the CL is $1141. Starting 10 Nov 2024 it rises to $1275 and seems to stay at that level for the next six months. Also on10 Nov 2024 Family Rooms are shown as sold out for the next six months. This appears to reflect a change in the consist...

    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

The 4 vertical rows of prices are the fares for Coach (C), Roomette (R), Bedroom (B) and Family Room (FR) for each train. There a many more Coach hares than are shown, but only the fare for an additional adult is shown. No idea why the FB is less than the B. Yes, $1021 to $3408 is the current...

    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I'll make the bold assumption that you think there is a single rate for the same trip. Not so. At present, there are actually 8 different rates for the same trip and for a Bedroom the ratio between the highest and lowest rate is (for 1 adult in a Bedroom from Chicago to Portland) is $3408 ÷...

    Hiawatha discussion

Thanks for the "how can" explanation. When CBS was manned I always preferred it over MKE for westbound trips on the EB. Same time & distance from home, plenty of free parking and a place to sit outside and watch the freights go by when the weather was nice.

    Hiawatha discussion

It's important to me as MKE is my link (after a 5-6 hour drive from home) to CHI and then on to the East, Gulf and West Coasts. Don't think my Michigan congress-critters care much about this issue. Glad to see MKE still offers checked baggage for the EB to SEA and PDX, however. The station at...

Yet another kick in the shins for the traveling public: https://wtmj.com/news/2024/05/17/amtrak-confirms-no-more-checked-baggage-on-hiawatha-train/ The Milwaukee Hiawatha joins the Boston LSL as another train with no checked baggage. What next???

Just between you, me and the lamp post, I don't think there's any way to predict the effect of an additional sleeper on fares.

You are certainly free to call and make that request, but the chances of it getting passed down to the attendant are about the square root of 0.SQUAT! :)

The Bedroom fare structure on the SS & SM is now $2114, 1967, 1724, 1561, and [1416]. Looks like my guess that $1967 was the high bucket was wrong. Chart will be amended in the near future. Thanks for the info but look on the bright side - that's only $67 per hour! :)

But wouldn't the TE/SL combination from CHI to LAX have just as much sleeper inventory as the SWC? But then, it's got only 3/7 the frequency of the SWC.
