Finally broke down and counted up all the bus-only places listed in the front of my 11 Jan 2016 paper copy of the system timetable and came up with a total of 347 places served only by the Thruway bus network. This is 36 more than all those found by looking at both the online and paper route...

Those fluctuations in fares are caused by a careless graveyard shift custodian whose mop handle pokes a sensitive spot on the Amtrak fare computer (Arrow). :rolleyes:

Sorry, but that's the 10/2018 version referred to previously and is out of date. I've a hunch there is no up-to-date version available online, but I've been wrong before. Lots of times.

Started to update my paper copies of this map (dated 3/2015) to delete now-defunct bus connections but found the process nearly as tedious as finding fares for the bucket chart. The route map available online is no help as it's dated 10/2018 and shows essentially the same thruway bus...

Ask yourself this one: What does how much fun some train rides are for someone else have to do with how much fun some other train rides will be for me? My recommendation is - if you need to ask, then don't go.

Only the LD trains. I don't keep track of the others.

FWIW, sleeper fares on all LD trains increased by $1 earlier this week. This includes the accommodation charge - the one in the C column on the bucket chart followed by the > symbol.

Mickey Mouse must have just been hired by Amtrak IT because fares on all LD trains (except the AT) just went up $1. And I'm not going to mess with the bucket chart for a measly buck. Edit: A quick check the next morning showed AT fares are now also up $1.

I suspect the primary reason for the fare increase was the differing dates of the initial booking and the recent inquiry. One way to get a feel for this is to make a dummy booking for a roomette on a travel date about two months from now, searching for a travel date with a fare at about middle...

If, however, you can manage to find low bucket bedrooms each way on the AT the grand total without priority car handling is only $2122. But the high fare winner is a roundtrip on the EB for two adults for a measly $7,490 !!

Sorry, looks like I misread your post. Grand total is indeed nearly $4,000.

Nearly $4000? But you, like many others exaggerate. Not including vehicle costs, round trip fare in a Bedroom for two adults is $3250 and while that may be considered pricey by most, it's not nearly $4000.
