Amtrak charging for large carry-on baggage

I have no idea what the op's definition of large is. That is why I asked. My thinking is that airline legal is large, but still Amtrak legal as a carry on. The quote in question was a statement, just that. It was intended to answer the OP's question. No violation of the 11th commandment.

    Amtrak long distance

And what do you have left? Only the NE corridor since by law the states pay for the other "corridors". Would the senators and house of representatives from outside the NE corridor be stupid enough to support the billions that it wants for infrastructure requirements?

Amtrak charging for large carry-on baggage

So what is large? From Amtrak's website: What's Allowed? 2 Carry-On Bags Up to 50 lbs. and 28 x 22 x 14 inches each That's 64 linear inches, 2 inches more than the so-called airline legal. That compares to 75 linear inches for checked baggage. No mention on the website about forcing you to...

Parking at Winter Park, FL Amtrak Station

If I recall correctly, Deland has parking that I suspect wouldn't be full.

Lake Shore Limited NY to Chicago

I believe sleeping car passengers have the use of the former viewliner diner as a lounge. It has fairly comfortable table seating, but is not a real lounge car from the old days. You will get a variety of answers regarding sitting in coach; but my response is that if there are empty seats...

Bring a packed tent on Amtrak?

What used to be called ski lockers.

What time should I be at Tampa? What time do they start boarding? Is it like Kissimmee?

The answer to the question "What time should I be at the station?" involves Sleeper vs. coach: technically this doesn't matter. However if you are in coach, you may or may not want to arrive earlier to jockey for a prime seat. No need to worry about this if you are in a sleeper. Checked...

    Amtrak Thruway Bus discussion

I've found the buses connecting Lakeland and St. Petersburg/Clearwater with the Silver Meteor in Orlando and STP to the Silver Star in Tampa to be very useful.  They aren't a train by any means; but still a nice ride.

    Viewliner side for the Hudson

It has always been 50-50.  I'm currently on #49 in an even numbered roomette on the right (bad) side.  The two NY sleepers are connected vestibule to vestibule; so one has even on the good side and the other odd. Now you have the nice diner/lounge to enjoy the view on both sides.

    2019 Winter Park Ski Train

Unless skiers are by nature masochistic, the Winter Park Ski Express must be a boon for Winter Park Ski Resort.  I just received a text from my son stuck in a long line in the parking lot at Loveland Ski Resort just trying to get onto I70 to head back to Denver .

    2019 Winter Park Ski Train

Wouldn't the business model be more like state supported trains rather than charters.  The states pay; but Amtrak sells the tickets.

Chicago Legacy Club Possible Closure - June 2019 or sooner

I'd add a another box.  If you are going to force passengers to queue to have tickets checked prior to boarding, how about inside, not out on the platform no matter how cold the weather.  Or adding to the digital sign board an announcement as to when queuing starts.

    Multi-city vs one-way booking

I think it has gotten smarter. I tried Tampa to NYP departing Jan10 and NYP to CHI departing Jan 11.  If I select the bus - Silver Meteor option for segment 1 and LSL for segment 2, all is well.  But if I select the Silver Star for segment 1, I get because the Start doesn't arrive in time the...

Room Assignment and Bucket Pricing Mysteries

Until recently that link would have gotten you an "Under construction" page because the part that sends email alerts had been generating spam. I lost interest in Amtrak so I never tried to track down the cause.  I merely took it down. I now find I want to track a couple of itineraries so I came...

Washington Post on Boarding Amtrak, Particularly at Washington Union Station

The long lines you saw must have been coach passenger, especially those heading for a NER train.  Boarding 97 from Club Acela will just be a small group leisurely doing the kindergarten walk.  Besides, if you have a sleeper, what's the hurry? Of course a redcap would be useful if you want a...

    Bike stuff

You can add Mt. Pleasant, IA to the list. I do have a question about MTP.  It is one of those stations that lost its agent in the latest downsizing.  Recently at train time someone was performing agent duties, filling out baggage claim checks, including bikes; letting people know when the train...

    Business Class in the west?

Add 38X to that.  In Illinois there is a farm road every mile.  At 79 mph that's about every 45 seconds. It seems that by the time the engineer is finished the 4 blasts, he's starting over again.  This is just another way Amtrak disses its premium passengers.

Location of sleepers on Capitol Limited's rump consist?

I'm slow getting back; but you can marked this one as answered..  I did the unmentionable and booked a flight from Quincy, IL to Orlando changing in Chicago, only my second domestic flight in 25 years.  $125 plus baggage.
