    Long distance considerations

Why do you say it’s tougher to define? 🤔 I’ll define it for you in 3 words: NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS That includes things like meat, milk, cheese, butter, eggs, honey, even gelatin. And if you think it’s only vegetables, you couldn’t be more wrong! I have things like: Burgers Smart dogs Macaroni &...

Eastern Sleeping Car Passengers Pre-Order Meals

Pre-paid? 🤔 ”Meals” are “included” in sleeper fares. So how do you pre-pay?

Safety and environmental issues with Amtrak's Flex Dining concept

Every time I’ve seen somebody order a burger/hot dog/pizza/sandwich/etc... from the cafe, I’ve seen the OBS just slice the wrapper to vent it, and put the entire package in the convection oven. I’ve never saw them take it out and put it on a plate before heating it up! And then take it off the...

First time traveling on train advice/help

It’s not just being out of something only in the middle of the trip. I once took the EB from CHI and I had the FIRST sitting on the FIRST day. I ordered the chicken. ”I’m sorry, were out of chicken!”

Eastern Sleeping Car Passengers Pre-Order Meals

I travel sometimes from CHI to LAX on the TE. If I chose my dinner for the first day, but decide to not have it because I had a big lunch in Chicago, are you saying I should wait until I reach my destination 3 days later?🤔

I see that all those meals contain eggs and meat. I am mostly vegan and do not eat meat, but I sometimes eat foods that contain a small amount of eggs. There are many vegans who do not consume ANY animal byproducts - including eggs, milk, honey, cheese, etc... What about us? BTW - This...

Amtrak has declared war on LD trains

I saw that also. I think he may have meant that they are eliminating daily operation, or elimination daily service on the SM to certain cities in NC and SC.

[Redacted] is your reservation number, that’s all. There should be another set of numbers. You mentioned “D” and other numbers. That is bedroom D and the other 4 numbers is your car number on train 3 and 4, the Southwest Chief. Moderator note: redacted potential reservation number.

First time traveling on train advice/help

If it says something like 0330/C, that means car 0330 (Where 03 is train 03 and car 30 of that train - but not the 30th car) and room C in that car.

Chicago Travel Order - 14 day quarantine

One thing that upsets me about it is they have drive thru testing, drive thru food pantries, drive thru restaurant meal pickup, etc... What if you do not drive - like me?

Chicago Travel Order - 14 day quarantine

My bad!😞 I read the “same reason” as “for some reason”. I need a trip soon! (Or sooner!)

Chicago Travel Order - 14 day quarantine

The TE is not an alternative choice because it departs BEFORE the SWC!

Cross country travel: are there any quarantines affecting train travel

While trains may not recirculate air per se, every time a passenger goes from car to car, and the end doors open, fresh air enters the car. (That’s part of reason they say do not open the doors between cars when going thru the Moffat Tunnel.) And you also get fresh air entering at every station...

    Long distance considerations

If you’re booking online, chose the “multI-city” option, and enter Trenton to Washington and Washington to Tacoma. On the choices for Trenton to Washington, chose the 9 am train instead of the 10am train. (Or whatever and however long of a connection time you’re comfortable with.)

Safety and environmental issues with Amtrak's Flex Dining concept

I agree. For 100 years (or however long it’s been), trains have had china, cups, glasses, pots, pans, etc... AND the necessary water to wash them on the train. The REAL savings is to not have to pay the extra employee to do the washing!
