Question about electrical outlet in Superliner Bedroom

I was always surprised that bedrooms only had 1 outlet/plug, while roomettes had 2 outlets/plugs!

Question about electrical outlet in Superliner Bedroom

I’ve only noticed 1 in a Superliner bedroom (by the sink). I never knew there was a 2nd plug by the couch!

It’s Time For America To Get Serious About Fixing The Trains

How about Washington Union Station to Rockville, MD. You can take Amtrak or MARC (I believe both non-stop) and you can even take the Metro (the Metro stop Is right next to the train stop). I call 3 possibilities competition. Do any of them offer you a beverage?🤔

It’s Time For America To Get Serious About Fixing The Trains

I was only replying to the “better service” comment made. Here’s another example: I flew from Atlanta to Detroit on Delta Airlines on a 757. (Note that these 2 airports are 2 of the major US hubs for Delta.) I received a beverage - and this was in First Class! Because the flight (from GA to...

It’s Time For America To Get Serious About Fixing The Trains

And if the airlines pay the fee, do they pay it from their profits or do they add a “user fee” to the ticket price of each and every ticket that you and I buy? As far as I know, every ticket (including “free” frequent flyer awards) has an extra charge for TSA - but there is no way you can fly...

Is the Montrealer coming back or just the Vermonter?

Why is it “really” necessary? Do the germs in the air stop at the border, because the border is closed? Or do they go thru Customs?

It’s Time For America To Get Serious About Fixing The Trains

I get any shipments sent by (whatever company) that is sent by SmartPost. It may be shipped by UPS/DHL/FedEx/etc from (where ever) to CT or MA, but is then transferred to the Post Office for delivery. Even Amazon, even though they make their own deliveries to my sister in RI or my friend in NJ...

It’s Time For America To Get Serious About Fixing The Trains

I can fly from Albany to Harrisburg on American, Delta and United Airlines. To me that’s competitive. On all, I would have at least 1 (and maybe both) flight(s) on smaller commuter jets without any service. (I might get a beverage if I’m lucky.) So where is this ”better service” you speak of?🤔

It’s Time For America To Get Serious About Fixing The Trains

Why stop at privatizing railroads? Let’s also privatize airlines and buses! You say they already are? How much does Greyhound pay to drive on I-80 or I-5? How much does Megabus pay to drive on I-95 or I-20? How much did American Airlines pay to build and operate O’Hare or Little Rock airport...

    Silver Service changes?

I’ll take an AM-2 over an AM-1 any day!

    Silver Service changes?

Those are not Viewliner coaches, they are mostly Amfleet II (although I’ve seen Amfleet Is used on the LSL). I was only going from BOS to SDY, so I thought it might be the “short” coach. But I saw many seat checks for Toledo - and they boarded in Boston!

Cross country travel: are there any quarantines affecting train travel

I don’t have a link, but I saw a story on one of the network news programs (CBS maybe) about a study in (I think) England that showed the infrared “exhaust” from someone wearing masks. It had some in front (thru the mask), but probably 5-10 times from the side and to the back!

Predominant Positioning of Sleeper(s) on Train 448?

In order to do that at ALB, you could not combine the trains until AFTER it leaves the platform, because of the location of the switches. Also, you have a problem with the locomotives. The P-42s go from ALB-BOS and ALB-CHI while P-32 ac/dc are used ALB-NYP.

    Modified Boarding and Cafe Service

OK - make it 30 or 50 people. At PHL, passengers boarding wait on the platform even before the incoming train arrives. Then, all passengers detaining and all passengers boarding must do so in the 3-5 minute stop! And it’s not a single car. Based on the above, only 1 or 2 doors open. That means...

OK to go inside Washington Union Station during long-distance train stop

I agree. The northbounds are usually “discharge only”, so as soon as the locomotive is swapped, it can depart. Even southbound,I would not try it. They close the boarding gates a few minutes before departure time. So even if you got a 30 minute stop, and you go inside but want to board at 28...

    Modified Boarding and Cafe Service

So instead of having 100 people boarding and 100 people detaining in a certain door, you instead have 200 people standing in the aisle - half getting off and half trying to reach their seats! Smart!

Predominant Positioning of Sleeper(s) on Train 448?

However, that only relates to the first sleeper. The H-Room and vestibule is next to the dining car, allowing for an easy roll-in. However, there is no easy roll-in from the 2nd or 3rd sleeper.

Cross country travel: are there any quarantines affecting train travel

Ride share programs like Lyft (I’m not 100% sure about Uber) require their passengers AND drivers to wear masks! I wear my mask over my mouth, but not over my nose. If I do, my glasses fog up. I think it is much more dangerous to both myself and others to either walk or drive not being able to...

    Silver Service changes?

There are Viewliner sleepers and Viewliner Dining Cars (er - I meant ”sleeper lounges”), but there are not any Viewliner coaches!

    Time to Change the Paradigm?

I agree with you on the lack of inter line agreements! I remember 40-50 years ago, I could fly from say Albany to Chicago on American and then change to say TWA to Phoenix. Now, you stay on American - even if you have to go thru Chicago and Dallas or LAX. A few years ago, I flew from Grand...
