    Amtrak Service Reductions

My station (FED) has 2 routes serving it - both of which are “temporarily cancelled”! As bad as it is for me not having trains, you can’t even go from Saratoga to Plattsburgh or Schenectady to Rutland. Neither route is running at all.

    Amtrak Service Reductions

If someone was going from say Charleston, WV to Salem, OR on 3X trains, they look at the schedule. “I can go by Amtrak, but I would have to travel 5 days, including overnights in Chicago and either Portland or Sacramento, or I could fly for the same fare or less with 1 short connection and be...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

Between 3X a week trains, paying $x,xxx for a boxed meal (or 5) and taking days instead of hours, isn’t it surprising that many are choosing to fly instead of taking Amtrak? 🤔

    Anderson to AA?

I accessed the airline club by being a same day flyer to get a day pass. If I regularly flew out of (or thru) a club location, I would get a lounge membership. But for me, with connections usually within an hour or so, it’s not worth it.

    Anderson to AA?

Even today, meals are iffy. I flew on DL in F from ATL to DTW. This flight is between 2 of the major hubs on DL, and was midday (a “normal” meal period). However, since the flight is under 900 miles, DL does not offer any meal or “food for sale”! So I got a light snack (I believe fruit & a...

    Anderson to AA?

Why? 🤔 It seems that Eastern, Pan Am and TWA carry almost the same amount of passengers these days as Amtrak does!🤭

    Anderson to AA?

I used to like Eastern, flying them often. (I almost got a job with them, making it to the final cut of 5 people.) I’ll agree with you about Alaska. I used to like UA a lot, but now like them slightly less.

    Anderson to AA?

I first came to AU in 2007 because AlanB made a mention of AU on FlyerTalk. I haven’t been to FT in years.

Covid Conditions at Major Amtrak stations: A suggestion to administrators.

If they closed the Great Hall, where do passengers wait?🤔 Every mention I’ve seen says that is the new and only waiting room for departures!

    50% buy-points bonus

In the old days, a roomette cost 35,000 points for NYP-PDX, no matter if you went NYP-CHI-PDX, NYP-CHI-SEA-PDX, NYP-CHI-LAX-PDX, NYP-CHI-SAS-LAX-PDX, NYP-CHI-EMY-PDX or even NYP-NOL-LAX-PDX. Now since the rates are based on the cash price, they could be (and probably are) different. Also under...

Covid Conditions at Major Amtrak stations: A suggestion to administrators.

I think that’s a good idea - if this becomes “the new normal”!

    Anderson to AA?

Maybe he can let AA work of a 50 year old reservation system! Since Arrow was based on AA’s reservation system in the 1970’s or before, they must be very familiar with it!

    Anderson to AA?

I used to fly DL a lot, but some things went downhill. Then I switched mostly to AA. Anderson was at DL and then at Amtrak. (Is it a coincidence things went downhill?) I hope AA doesn’t join the group!

CZ CHI-RNO and back for Jul 4th weekend: What should I document?

And where are the Meals? How do you allow for 6 feet apart in the dining car, when there are 4 to a table, and the tables are back to back?

    Amtrak Website Not User Friendly....

Would you rather have a schedule from Dec 2019 showing trains that are not currently running and/or are operating at different times due to this pandemic? 🤔

    Amtrak Website Not User Friendly....

Right now, you can’t pull a complete route timetable, because the timetables in the system are not what’s available currently. An example is NYP-BOS - instead of the 10-15 shown, there may be just 1 or 2 running. But if you enter say KIN to NHV on 9/24/2020, it will show The current trains and...

    Train Host/Station Host

I took a train from FED last winter. It was the morning after an overnight storm. The station is unstaffed, but there was a path plowed from the parking lot to the train! So maybe the town does it.

    Amtrak Website Not User Friendly....

If the OP meant “cash” as in “$ bills and coins”, how do you pay them online?🤔 I think the OP meant “cash” as in “credit/debit cards”. That can be done as easily as with any airline/store/restaurant/etc...

    Train Host/Station Host

I think station host and station attendant are 2 different things. Perhaps a station attendant may get paid something to work the building and keep it clean. However, I think a station host may be a true volunteer. Look at an event like the Super Bowl or Olympics. There are paid positions, but...

    Train Host/Station Host

Although Plattsburgh, NY is unstaffed, it is manned by volunteers who have the indoor waiting room open and available, and notifies you when the Adirondack has departed from the border - about 20 miles north. This has been for the numerous times I’ve been there for the past many years.
