    My Lionel O-Scale

I have O (Lionel) and S (American Flyer) layouts. All engines are late 1940s.

How much of the Amtrak map has one covered?

My wife and I have likely traveled more on Viking river and sea boats than we have on Amtrak...about 13 countries. You should try it sometime. Amtrak-wise, Silver Meteor and Star, Crescent, Sunset Limited, and the NE Regional.

    Historic passenger rail traffic?

One of 4 PRR streamlined K4 engines pulling "name trains" (aside from the Broadway Limited). The Altoona shops designed and built these. I think it looks better than the Loewy designed streamlined Broadway Limited engine.

    United, American, Delta, and Southwest

My wife and I have visited 33 countries. Since Philadelphia is a "hub" for American Airlines, that is the one we have used the most. I do not have bad stories about any of them (that were the airline's fault). Best food was on Cathay Pacific. Best flights on corporate jets.

Which US airlines do you recommend for domestic service?

I'm willing to pay extra for DIRECT flights, period.

Just another newbie, looking for great sight-seeing opportunities

You picked a route that has some of the best scenery in the us. Have a great trip.

Red Cap Service at Washington Union Station

My wife and I use redcaps for every trip, but we are 81 and 79. We even use them on non-overnight trips to DC and Boston for help with luggage. As far as NYC Penn Station goes, it's worth the $5. per bag no matter your age. At this terminal, you are not allowed to go to platform level until the...

AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

I'm fine with the new card. Not getting a email like I used to when the bill is first due, but I keep an eye out and pay the full balance each month.

    Air travel with an infant

Pay for the direct. When we went, many years ago, we flew with 5 stops/total 24 hours. Each connection is a potential screw-up. Cathay-Pacific = great food.

Future Amtrak Equipment and ADA ideas

Which is what my wife (78) and I (80) have done for all of our 8 overnight trips. PLUS, 2 roomettes are a good deal cheaper than one bedroom (that still has bunk beds).

    Fulfilling a lifelong dream

Yes. I lived in Queens until age 7, and my grandson lives in Brooklyn. Dumb me.

    Amtrak's struggles

Remember "sections"? The 20th Century Limited, and others, would run up to 3 sections, leaving at the same time, when demand was considered.

    Fulfilling a lifelong dream

I've taken the "Silver" trains a good number of times. I agree that you get the longer light in June, but I go to Florida in February for the warmth. I'm going to say there is not much to see but trees, most of the night hours, but we always fly home....so I can't speak for northbound trains. It...

    Sunset Limited and Phoenix

When we arrived in Maricopa, our train was running 4 hours late. We were dumped out at 1 am to NO transportation options. Uber did not answer our 'phone. Get a pickup service ahead of time to meet your train WHEN it arrives.

    Rude Amtrak employees

I've been riding the NEC for 58 years, and cannot recall any employee negatives. Local trains, just one young jerk.

Phlânerie in Philly: The greatest hits of my High School years

We live 8 miles West of Phila. Back in the early 1960s, I was attending The Philadelphia Collage of Art at Broad and Pine. Had apartments at 9th and Pine, then at 11th and Spruce. Was born in Queens NYC, so I've had some city life.

AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

While on our local (SEPTA) train, going to the Amtrak station 2 days ago, there was a poster saying "get 20,000 points for getting the Amtrak card". The picture was the new blue card, but no mention of the new bank.

    Amtrak delays

#91 Silver Star more late than normal, arriving Miami yesterday 3+ hours late. 1 hour sitting in Richman, VA, and 2 hours somewhere between Camden and Columbia, SC.

    Children's model trains

"O" (Lionel size) layouts are good for details.
