Silver Star/Silver Meteor combined train (Jan - Oct 2022)

We came down to Ft. Lauderdale leaving on 3/19. It arrived 1 hour late. On 4/2-4 we were booked to take 92/91 from Ft. Lauderdale to Orlando and back. We cancelled, and drove the 2 hours and 45 minutes. Turns out that 91 got into Ft. Lauderdale last night 3 hours late. Tomorrow we fly home.

Which webcam is your favorite to watch Amtrak trains?

I watch Ashland, VA for the "Silver" trains from NYP to Miami, Auto Train, and Boston to Norfolk, VA trains. But the "watchers" rarely talk trains.

Expected state of Amtrak for the summer and fall travel season (2022)

Although we will be using Amtrak for NEC travel, they have lost us to the airlines for overnight travel. Last week we arrived in Ft. Lauderdale almost 2 hours late. 5 totally full sleepers with one dinning car was a madhouse. Because train #97 was no longer running, we had to spend 4 extra hours...

    Amtrak serving every state capital

True, but that bridge only handled tank car shipments of chemicals twice a month. The track, from the bridge, was only about a half-mile long. Any passenger service ended in the 1930s.

    Amtrak serving every state capital

That is where the Lewes/Rehoboth RR started back in the early 1900s. The ferry went to the RR station. A link to this: www.goldenageofrehoboth.com

    Amtrak serving every state capital

We have a second home in Lewes, Delaware...a 45 minute drive south of Dover. Back around 1915, a RR line did run from MD to Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. The area has become a retirement "hot spot", in part due to very low real estate taxes plus no state sales tax.

Another wonderful trip report by Jeb Brooks

I enjoy the NYC to Boston scenery. Leave NYC looking at the skyline, including the Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods. See, and pass over the Hell Gate bridge. Ride along the coastline, often with water and boats on both sides. Look at towns large and small. Pass a graveyard near the tracks, and...

Gas prices where you are located?

I remember riding in a friend's family's new 1954 Buick. At a gas station, his mother asked, "Fifty cents worth, please." (Yes, I'm 80).

7 states? Our NE Regional from Phila. to Boston covers 6, and NYC to Florida covers 11. :)

    Ridership Survey Results

"Tipping" was a eye-opener. Cannot believe all the cheap-skates. No wonder I get a sincere "thank you".

Silver Star/Silver Meteor combined train (Jan - Oct 2022)

We were on 91 on 3/19-20. We were 2 hours late for most of the trip. The highlights of the trip was having the best Red Cap ever in Philadelphia named Charles, and a wonderful car attendant (sorry, no name gotten) on sleeper #9110. Thank you both! Yes, they got big tips from me.

    Train Consists

I'm now on 91 to Florida. We have 5 coaches, 5 sleepers, cafe, diner, and baggage. YouTube live cams are good for seeing this.

Transportation from Maricopa AZ (and other stations)

I felt that this was important enough to bring up, again. A few years ago, my wife and I were dropped off by the Sunset Limited in Maricopa, AZ (the Phoenix stop). The train was due around 10pm, and research before our trip noted bus, as well as taxi service would be waiting at the station...

H Rooms available to passengers with no disability?

Either the Amtrak site is wrong, or you are. It says that in a H room, there is a "nearby shower".

H Rooms available to passengers with no disability?

While checking the status of our 3/19 trip on the star, I found that the only "seating" now is 4 "H" rooms (AKA Accessible Bedroom)...no seats in coach, no roomettes, and no bedrooms were listed. I thought the "H" rooms were the only rooms without bunk beds. Seems like these new V-2 "H" rooms...

Coach passengers in sleeping car rooms?

I would rather not have coach passengers "looking in". They should be escorted by a sleeping car attendant if roomettes are empty (which is zero on the 3/19 Star).

    Fun on the NEC

Just checked the Star we will be on in 4 days. Roomettes no longer available, and 2 bedrooms remain at $1,800. each. That is almost double the cost of our TWO roomettes to Ft. Lauderdale!

    Ideas about increasing Amtrak ridership

Choices for Boston are South, Back Bay, and Rt.128. We get off at 128, which is closest to my daughter's house in Medway. No choices for Philadelphia besides New Jersey and Delaware.
