Definitely agree, and I'm in the generation that grew up with phones all around. :) I'm looking at taking the SWC/CZ at the end of the semester and the lack of cell phone coverage is just fine.

I'm seeing that the Coast Starlight has business class, which is unusual for long distance trains. Do any other LD trains have business class or is the CS the only one? The biggest perk for me would probably be the metropolitan lounge in LA assuming it's a nice one. Amtrak's website seems to...

I was looking at the transit docs map today and noticed an interesting turn on the CZ near Andover, CA. I took a look on Google Maps and the CZ is visible on the aerial, right on the loop I was looking at...

Is the dining car open to coach passengers on long distance routes? I may take the CS from LA to EMY and would take coach. If not I'd make sure to pack enough food + supplement with the cafe car.

This does beg the question- how much current can the HEP generator on a Genesis locomotive provide?

I'm tentatively planning on riding the CZ from EMY to GBB and have been playing with dates over the past few weeks. All of a sudden it seems only the second and third lowest buckets are available, even 11 months from now. Has the demand for the CZ suddenly increased that much?

At this point I'm wondering how likely a third (I think it was extended twice so far?) extension will be. To each his own, but traveling with a mask on most of the time (especially by coach where you lack a private room) just isn't the same. :confused:

One of the trip plans I have bouncing around in my head is to take the SWC to LAX from GBB, then the CS to EMY, and back to GBB on the CZ. I would spend the bulk of my vacation in the EMY area and very little in LAX. I can put the CS and the SWC on the same ticket but it's cutting it close (8:00...

I've been doing a lot of hypothetical trip planning lately and was thinking about taking a trip to New England out of Chicago. What are the best routes in the NE? and best destinations too! It would be fun to hit several of the short distance routes + a couple of long distance routes in one go...

Oh dear, that is quite confusing... What are the flex meals like? And I've never even heard of simplified or cross country. o_O

I'm curious, have the flex meals gotten that much worse? I remember having it in 2018 and it was excellent... Not the same experience as traditional dining, but still good food.
