    Missed Connection

I missed my connection for the CL in CHI when the EB was 8 hours late. Because they were on the same ticket they bussed us out to a hotel and brought us back the next day. It was actually a fun adventure and we had an extra day in our schedule just in case.

    Coach Cafe Pictures

Weird, it's not like anything I've seen before on the train!

    Coach Cafe Pictures

I've been looking at future travel opportunities and the Heartland Flyer looks like a fun option for when I'm in Dallas visiting family. I noticed the consist is normally a coach/cafe + a couple of coaches + NPCU and loco. I don't see much online about the coach/cafe. Is it just a coach with an...

Watching the Weather from a train

I don't remember any significant weather on past trips, but I do remember the westbound EB breaking down somewhere in Idaho or Montana when I was 10 or so. I remember BNSF had to bring out a freight locomotive to get us moving again. :P

What's the deal with the Texas Eagle?

Makes sense, thanks. I'm looking at going from Galesburg, to LAX, to SAC, then back to Galesburg (SWC, CS, CZ, with time in-between) and oddly enough I see the TE cheaper than the SWC. In January, for example, the TE is $766 at the lowest and the SWC is $900 (one person). As this would be a...

What's the deal with the Texas Eagle?

Short consists aside, I've been wondering how the TE joins with the SL in SAS. Are some of the cars just tacked onto the back of the SL when westbound? and vice versa eastbound? This would make sense considering the lack of traditional dining from CHI to SAS. Just curious and I haven't seen a...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

That's good to hear. The SSL has always been the highlight of my trips, sleeper or coach. I'm awaiting the time when the COVID restrictions are no more- big amtrak plans are being made. :)

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I was very happy to see that traditional dining is back! I'm not sure when I'll travel next though, the COVID restrictions and possibly not having a sightseer lounge take the fun out of the train for me...

    A Better Amtrak Schedule Site?

Agreed, but it would be nice!

    A Better Amtrak Schedule Site?

I'd love to get at Amtrak's APIs myself and make a website for it, but I guess I should wait to see what they come up with themselves.

accidental double post, please delete: A better amtrak schedule?

When looking at flights on Google, they have a calendar showing the cost of return flights for each day. As of yet, i haven’t found anything like this for Amtrak. I understand that Amtrak operates differently than an airline but it would still be helpful to see how costs compare through time...

Is this the best place to discuss trip planning? https://www.amtraktrains.com/forums/amtrak-rail-discussion.3/ Or should that go here under destination discussion? https://www.amtraktrains.com/forums/where-to-go-what-to-see.90/ I'm thinking more broad than just destinations, so possibly out...

    New member, long time rider.

A little about me: I've been a fan of trains since I was a little kid. I remember going on my first Amtrak trip from MSP to WFH when I was five and being beyond excited. I've been on quite a few subsequent trips to the south and northeast up until 2012, with a trip in 2018 and 2019 afterward...
