Freighttrain derailment South of Klamath Falls (4/29)

Just got kicked out of southbound Starlight. We will be bussed to Sacramento. Something about a derailed freighttrain. Hopefully nobody got hurt. My kids are sad...

What's a safe distance from the train?

In the Netherlands we have to stay clear 1.5 meters from the closest rail. However, if I should trip or pass out flat I'd rather not kiss a car, so if possible I keep about 2 meters from vehicles.

One dead, others injured in Amtrak-semi collision near Galva, IL

If fibreglass, as long as you have a undamaged nose somewhere, you have a mold for a mold... We had a mold and nose made for a truckkisser a few years ago.

SWC in June, Kansas City to L.A.

My country is about 100 miles wide. Yours is wider, meaning you have extra sleeping time going West. Might still be too early for the wannabe-adult though...

    AMTRAK APP

Some US-apps don't run on non-US-registred phones. Could that have something to do with your problem?

    Superliner 3 and plate H

Thanks Alexandria Nick! You made me search some more. I looked in Wikipedia's 'Loading Gauge' page and found some drawings in references 30 and 35. Plate K makes sence for a passenger car. Plate H not so much, I guess.

    Superliner 3 and plate H

Containers are about 2.5 meters wide. If you want plate H cars, you get narrow ones...

Sunset Limited Arrival in Los Angeles

Yep. Two redcaps for the needy people, so we walked to the lounche. An extra redcap or two would be nice for the waiting people, but there's of course a pricetag attached on the guestimated early arrival. Coming from Chicago, the early arrival wasn't a problem. TE had some delays on the way...

    Budapest to Bucharest

Thanks, all! And yes Ed, I've been to Wales two times, to do some track work with the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society. A lot of men and women I would describe as British. Welshmen and English chaps working together, isn't history a happy ending story... We should try to talk a bit longer...

Paris, TGV, Toulouse, train to Latour de Carol...

Ah... Tuna is a fish, a fish has fins. Fins live in Finland. Finland lies next to Russia. Russia used to be a communist country. Therefore you were communist, until you left your can of tuna behind and you were no longer a threat to world peace. This is the only logical reason I can think of...

    Budapest to Bucharest

Oh, and if anybody could enlighten me on how to get the blank lines visible I see while working in OpenOffice, but which automagically disappear on the site, I would be very happy. My mobile phone publishes the text quit alright, but the laptop I misuse by putting it on top of a table, probably...

    Budapest to Bucharest

Pictures say more than a thousand words, some say, so you might want to check http://tinyurl.com/mdbdtcz. But if you're bored anyway, you may want to read the small report below. Exquize my English: I'm not a native speaker and I've studied German language a few years, meaning I have to try to...

Budapest and Belgrade: "What Edwin did next..."

Hi Ed, Nice trip report! We met in the the train towards Belgrade, my son and I were in the same row. And we had the same hotels in Budapest and Belgrade. I'll try to make a trip report in a couple of days. Perhaps this link to some of our pictures in Dropbox works: http://tinyurl.com/mdbdtcz...

    Albuquerque - Then and Now

Howdie! It could be, the track mentioned on the first page, is a bit shorter now (left side, in the shadow under the bridge): The end: This was in front of the locomotives during fueling: And in front in the sand the above mentioned track: Cloudy regards from Rotterdam, Peter

    Amtrak 5 CZ May 2 - 4 2012

Thanks for the compliment! Peter PS: is not as interesting as the audio. You now know, why I'm happy, this BNSF unit only drove in the morning, not during the night!Poor Curtis' announcement is boo-ed at from the locomotive! ;)

    Amtrak 5 CZ May 2 - 4 2012

Hi JoanieB! The conducter kept us informed, like you said. I must have overheared the first announcements. I was having breakfast during the start of the small detour. After I finished, I wanted to return to my room at the end of the train, but I noticed, I was walking in same direction as the...

    Amtrak 5 CZ May 2 - 4 2012

Hi! Normally, this train is turned (or do you say "whyed"?) in Denver, because the train enters Denver from the north(-eastern) en leaves Denver in the north(-western) direction. This turning of the train was now done around the scene of the accident. The derailled cars were tankcars, at least...

    Amtrak 5 CZ May 2 - 4 2012

Hi there! Here's a short trip report from our trip last week. After booking our trip in December 2011, a few weeks before departure, I found on this forum some information about delays for the CZ train caused by trackwork. This would give us a few hours in Denver, to do a short city trip! As...
