Amtrak goes straight to STB to restore Gulf Coast service.

Chicago to Jacksonville? New Orleans to Jacksonville? I think I agree with some of the sentiments here that those won't work, even though they would be nice, especially for "novelty" travelers. Honestly if there was any way at all to get to FLA by train and not have to go to NY to do it, I would...

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

Why do we have to be so pessimistic even when we hear good news? I don't understand this place...

    Midwest Venture introduction

In his latest video which covered a pre-covid trip on the MO River Runner, French Youtuber "Simply Railway" says the latest rumor is that the midwest Velaro cars could go into service by this August. That's about a month away. I find this at least a little hard to believe, but I want to. Does...

    Texas Eagle with two units

Just when I didn't think the Teaglet could get any worse. More like the Texas Chicken now. My MoPac heart is breaking. Why? Why this train? Why can't they pick some snotty highfalutin east coast train to torment?

    Auto Train service expansion?

This is another one of those things that I always think about with Amtrak. By my calculation, the Auto Train concept is the ultimate American method of travel. If we were serious about traveling by train in the USA, we would have multiple frequencies of these absolutely massive passenger trains...

Why aren't overnight trains able to compete with flying?

This is probably what gets me the most every time I think about Amtrak. The long-distance line is essentially literally not being allowed to be the massive success that it very easily could and should be. It's the freights, who are really run by the soul sucking wraiths of Wall Street. When any...

    Awful Trip on The Zephyr

That line of thinking is going to end up landing us European-style "couchette" or corridor coach accommodations. Eugh...

MO Rail Plan request for input

A third frequency? We've just barely managed to prevent permanent service reduction to one. We won't be getting the second train back for another month, sooner than I expected, and the provision only lasts through the end of the year. Despite how incredibly hard the local politicians along the...

    Texas Eagle Sightseer lounge discontinued

Well, my hunches turned out more or less correct it seems, hahaha. Lots of questions remaining, though. We have to continue praying that an infrastructure bill and/or reauthorization bill passes with "transformational" funding for new equipment that doesn't just get eaten up by corridor-vision...

    Texas Eagle Sightseer lounge discontinued

I don't think griping and constantly reiterating the same criticisms of railroad management is going to get us any further with this. Help me out, guys. Let's try to connect some dots. When did this start? When was the last time the SSL was on the TE and on the CL? When did SSLs start showing up...

    Texas Eagle Sightseer lounge discontinued

Another observation: now that I've been able to do some YouTube research, it does appear that the Capitol Limited has the same five-car consist, with the occasional additional locomotive. The CONO, however, still has an SSL in its seven-car consist as of only four days ago. Curious.

    Texas Eagle Sightseer lounge discontinued

Now everybody hold on just a hot moment. Read this. If you have, read it again, and follow that link to the official Amtrak release. https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews/news-wire/amtrak-establishes-priorities-in-wish-list-reports-to-congress/ From what I'm reading here, there's a chance...

    Texas Eagle Sightseer lounge discontinued

Passenger rail overall is looking brighter, even if they are tunnel-visioning on corridors. Here's a theory: the TE is looking grim right now because of the dorm issue and issues recalling employees for daily service. They could have a full train before because triweekly service required less...

    Texas Eagle Sightseer lounge discontinued

I'm finding these little tidbits from employees very hard to believe. I'm finding all of this rather hard to believe besides the fact of how much damage covid and triweekly service has done. Even if this is legit, there's no way it will stand. TEMPO and RPA will light up the sky with tracers to...

    "California Night Train" gaining interest

https://cal.streetsblog.org/2021/04/14/commentary-california-needs-a-night-train-now/?fbclid=IwAR0aky4JF7vqDUAXzmoRZ7PCQTFsYoG9brPh-mYkLU0LGCEzq3Nwt4QjGG4 RPA shared this on Facebook. I like name "Coast Moonlight," and I like the idea of Nightjet equipment. Even more than that, I'm absolutely...

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

Killed it? It doesn't seem very dead to me. It' still moving. Maybe we should poke it with a stick and make sure.

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

Once more, let's be honest here. Seems like a majority of the board is pining for the North Coast Hiawatha (rightly, as are people along its route) and the Pioneer/City of Portland, along with the Desert Wind it sounds like. What was it that killed the Pioneer, again?

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

I think it's pretty clear that we all agree on the obvious and now long-standing bias against western long-distance trains. We all want more routes, more frequencies, better service to more communities, etc. There are reasons why we haven't seen much of a response to this from Amtrak, Congress...

Amtrak unveils new 50th Anniversary units & Phase VII paint scheme

I'm so confused. What even is Phase VI? Why then Phase VII all the sudden? Are they introducing two new phases at the same time? Am I missing something here? Is there any equipment currently painted in Phase VI? I can't think of any. Man, this is a lot.
