EMY to Glenwood then to CHI changes in room type on both segments

It was 6 It was 630. Since it’s only that leg of the overall trip, I’m sure we will be fine. By that part of the journey we will be used to train travel.

EMY to Glenwood then to CHI changes in room type on both segments

Thanks for that reply. I was focused on a first booked mentality but that makes sense. And add in the recent closure of that section due to avalanches, I was trying to puzzle it all together.

EMY to Glenwood then to CHI changes in room type on both segments

Today my TA called to let me know my bedrooms have been changed on the first let of EMY to Glenwood Springs OCt 7 and then ( oct 10) the bedrooms have been changed to Roomettes with a refunded amount to be sent out via my TA. Here are my questions. Does this happen often? Does it indicate...

    Fire impacts Coast Starlight (6/29/21)

I appreciate the enouragement for me and the rest of us who have a trip planned on CS between now and this Fall. For me, im am glad I am not one of the ones much closer to the announced "in service" date of the bridge, best wishes to everyone! For what its worth, my itinerary is: EB from...

    Fire impacts Coast Starlight (6/29/21)

I’ve been reading along and have mild concerns. Honestly not sure if I should or not at this point: my train departs Seattle oct 4th to EMY. It’s the second leg of Empire/CS/Zephyr back to Chicago. We have bedrooms in each segment. My alternatives would be to fly? Suck it up , ride the bus...

No bedrooms available on Empire Builder

Ill jump in on the Bar/revenue topic: I am guessing that most train riders would know when to "cut them selves off" and not get drunk and disorderly etc. But then that self limiting would keep a lid on revenue. I suspect some would over do it and that would cause problems. Being removed from...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

I was stating "why does it matter" meaning my question, in case anyone wondered why I would ask that. I suspect they will be a big difference from a technical standpoint, fuel and , I am guessing noise. I am excited, but sad I won't get to ride behind one this fall.......... Thanks Cal1

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

I have read a bunch of pages here and , honestly, my question is simple. Will the new ALC-42 be in service soon? Yes I am a lazy Newbie here and was just wondering because my first grand rail journey is Early October Empire to Coast to Zephyr with three two night stays along the way. What...

Scanners, Radio and other such tech inquiries

Based on the feedback here, some say bring it some say no worries if you dont, I reached out to a family member who I recalled has one and I think that might be the best idea, no need to buy, but some fun along the way. Ill confirm what type and frequencies it works on as I get closer to...

Scanners, Radio and other such tech inquiries

I have been watching videos for my October 2021 Empire to Coast Starlight to Zephyr journey. One piece of tech I have seen are Scanners, tuned to Amtrak frequencies. It looks like a fun, and useful item, but a few minutes on Amazon show a great cost for a none regular Amtrak passenger. Can...

Great tips everybody ! WE didn't plan to connect the rooms into one but we might on the leg where its possible. My sister and I just looked this trip early this year, so those connection combinations were already taken. With travel set to make a big comeback this year, I suspect the trains and...

A bunch of first timer questions

Now I am thinking about finding a somewhat recent railway guide. Maybe more recent than the 1916 edition, cool perspective but for a first trip I’ll have to see what I can find

A bunch of first timer questions

That makes sense. Good tip. We have a variety of room assignments during our four legs off the trip. Just glad they were not sold out.

A bunch of first timer questions

I like the idea of a "self tour guide". that has notes and things to see! I seems much of the routes will not have cellular, so I may take my GPS Garmin to trace along with the route! great idea on the Topographic maps as well! The more I read here, the more I learn , glad I started far in...

A bunch of first timer questions

Actually, having my brother and sister who live in Aspen well will most likely stay there with them. It’s about a 45 minute free bus ride or they might come get us. My hitchhiking days in the roaring fork valley are past me at this point, but I’ve done it! Initial plan was to stay at the...

A bunch of first timer questions

Yes, after each segment , we have a two night overnight after. Seattle, San Francisco, Glenwood Springs.

A bunch of first timer questions

. I'm doubting if you each have separate bedrooms that they're both Bedroom A, unless you deliberately reserved that, as there is only one Bedroom A per car. Are you in the same car on each train? We are in the same car, and only have one room "A" on two of our four segments. Sounds like "A"...

A bunch of first timer questions

These are some great replies, exactly what I thought id get from this group! We have family in SFO area, and in Aspen, I lived there a long time so very familiar with Glenwood Springs and some of The West. I have never been to Seattle nor across the upper regions, the Dakotas, Montanna Idaho...
