    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I agree 100%. This was assigned to us a few days before travel. So, no ADA was inconvenienced. We are always happy in our little bedroom. A family with children wanted 2 adjoining rooms. No harm. I have seen passengers in roomettes that look like they should be in the HC room.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

No door to close? Out in the open? No privacy? Think of the smell. OMG We were once put in a HC bedroom since a family wanted 2 bedrooms together. Amtrak did ask us if we were willing to change. We saw no harm. I would not be happy if we were put into one of those rooms.

New Amtrak Moynihan train hall at NYP

Thank you. When you’re used to one place, getting used to a new place can be a little scary. I’ve lived in Brooklyn for many decades and worked in Manhattan for a few decades. I always brag the NYC and Brooklyn are so easy to get around with public transportation. Now I have nightmares of...

New Amtrak Moynihan train hall at NYP

Pre COVID, we traveled the Silvers at least twice yearly. We’re snowbirds in reverse. Fl is our home. I am understanding that the Silvers will be leaving from the new station. But where do we enter? 8th Ave or 9th Ave.? Or both? Not those huge stairs, I hope.

Who travels in the Sleeper Cars?

I've been traveling by train for almost all my 73 years on this earth. I actually start missing it if it's longer than 6 months between trips. Our first Silver trip might have been in 1999. First and last time in coach. We've been snowbirds for the past 12 years so we're on one of the...

Who travels in the Sleeper Cars?

We were once "upgraded" to the H bedroom on one of the silvers. They did call and asked if we were willing to change bedrooms. It seems there was a family that needed 2 bedrooms together. I guess with small children. Of course we said yes. I remember traveling coach NYP to FBG with 2 children...

Eastern Sleeping Car Passengers Pre-Order Meals

We've been traveling the Silver Meteor/Star both north and south at least twice a year for more than 12 years, and I've had some pretty good meals. My favorite lunch was, I believe was a corn chower with shrimp. Just enough spice. When they eliminated the soup and salad option, people on this...

Eastern Sleeping Car Passengers Pre-Order Meals

Funny, that's how a formal night lobster dinner was described on Princess cruises. It was a lemon arugula risotto that was green.

Was the english muffin toasted at all or was it soggy? I guess wrapped in foil would make it soggy, but I do hope it's been at least toasted.

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

Let me preface this by saying we've traveled on the meteor 2-6 times a year for the past 12 years. I have always enjoyed the food, most especially the seafood. Even the dry salmon was always tasty. We were on the Meteor on Oct 13-14th. I was so looking forward to trying the new dining. The...

    NYP Acela lounge experience

We were in the lounge on Oct 13th waiting for the Meteor. I actually commented to my husband how shabby and worn the seats were. The little tables were gone. As were the payphones by the restrooms. No Goldfish, but plenty bags of Doritos and pretzels, with a few granola bars thrown in. The...

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

just a heads up. Do yourself a favor and download Mobile Passport, if you haven’t already done so. Saves a heap of time going through customs. They have their own line. I’ve kissed that app more than once.

Penn Station 33rd Street and 8th Ave Exit

You are right. Thanks for the correction.

Penn Station 33rd Street and 8th Ave Exit

After you exit the train and take the escalator up to the main concourse where the big departure sign is. With your back to the seated waiting area, the escalators are on on the corner ends, that’s the 9th Ave side. Public restrooms on the right, baggage check and Dunkin’ Donuts are to the...

Silver Meteor new Dining October 1

So, am I understanding that the lunch and dinner options are the same? Boy, I’m going to miss my veggie burger. I always ordered the fish entree and always enjoyed it. So now if I want fish, I have to pick out the sausage??? I wonder if entrees will be changed seasonally. We’ll be on the...

Silver Meteor almost 5 hrs late?

Train 97 left Penn Station just a little late yesterday. Estimated arrival time in Hollywood is now 10:47. Everytime I check, its another hour late. Anyone knows what's going on? At this point, what are the chances if making up even a little time?

NYP-DLB and back on the Silver Meteor - live report

Lucky you, Since we won't be on the Meteor till early January we have to wait to overindulge.  We go to the one on University Dr. And speaking of dinner, since we were Meteor riding snowbirds for past 8 years, we've always ordered the fish entree and have never been disappointed.  Only one...

Silver Meteor Car 9811 Room 3

I seem to remember someone posting roomettes that were located over the wheels. I believe they said to avoid them if you want a smoother ride. Anyone know if it's true and which ones they are? This would be for the Silvers.

    Silver Meteor vs Silver Star

When my son and his girlfriend spent 2 days in South Beach summer of 2017, the hotel on Washington St (2 blocks from the ocean) was inexpensive (but not cheap) and very welcoming, as were the restaurants.  Lots of freebies/discounts being offered.  They did have a great time, loved the hotel and...
