Atrocious in Chicago? Ive not had any issues boarding (from the lounge) in Chicago. Many, many trips in and out of there. Now Chicago is a very busy station so lots of people.

I was headed eastbound on the EB this summer. Westbound arrived around noonish. I was told it took 4 hours and so we left on time.

Lots of people have some trouble sleeping the first night on a train trip. Two in the bottom bunk I think compounds that issue. Its pretty small. The second night on the train most sleep better as they are making up on lost sleep.
