Red Cap cart falls on track and passengers at Union Station in Chicago

Good point. It's likely it does, IMHO. They were ticketed passengers (and so agreed to arbitration as a condition of buying the ticket) on the way to Amtrak train, on Amtrak property using an Amtrak service provided by an Amtrak employee.

    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Unsure whether or not they need a pilot for the KO Sub, but they might stay qualified on it. Similar to between Roseville and Marysville (Binney Jct) over the former SP East Valley line. Amtrak crews maintain qualification on it even though the normal Starlight route is on the former WP between...

Red Cap cart falls on track and passengers at Union Station in Chicago

It won't get that heated. It is as clear a case of dead bang liability as a rear end car accident. Documented on video. Amtrak knows it, Amtrak's lawyers know it, the plaintiff's lawyer knows it. A settlement will be negotiated, Amtrak is inescapably on the hook for this and everyone involved is...

    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Probably extreme cold temperatures. When it's really cold BNSF does directional running so as to minimize the need to throw switches, westbound on the XO Sub, eastbound on the Hillsboro and Devils Lake Subs.

Amtrak, but it's the same thing anyway. CUS is wholly owned and run by Amtrak. Amtrak owns the liabilty.

Red Cap cart falls on track and passengers at Union Station in Chicago

Well, I never use Red Caps in Chicago, now I will make sure and continue to not use them. The only place I use them with any consistency is NYP for early platform access. While the Chicago platforms are narrow, the video clearly shows it wasn't crowded and the Red Cap wasn't trying to avoid...

    Family Bedroom

While I haven't been in a Family Bedroom, I have been in a H room, which is in the equivalent space next to the trucks at the other end of the car. I did not find the ride particularly rough. Roughness of ride is a much more a function of track condition and the condition of the car's...

Leaving luggage during connection at Fort Worth

On a very recent trip, neither the gate dragons, nor the attendants, nor the Metropolitan Lounge staff at New York and Chicago blinked an eye at carry ons or checked anyone. Nor did the agents at Everett, WA. Amtrak is very much YMMV and extremely inconsistent. There may be a policy change to...

Leaving luggage during connection at Fort Worth

Which never happened. It remains "if you can carry it, you can have it" in the field.

Leaving luggage during connection at Fort Worth

It's Amtrak, YMMV. Be prepared to pay the $10 charge and be happily surprised if you don't.

    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

LA Union Station's open platform has gotten to be unusual in the general Amtrak scheme of things, which is more and more controlled access to platforms. Hope this isn't a foretaste of them cracking down there. However, with that said, at many service/fresh air stops they discourage going up to...

    Coast Starlight discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Agreed and I am pretty sure there are qualified engineers to SAC in Oakland, since many Capitol Corridor trains originate/terminate there. It may even be the same pool as San Jose. If they had to, they could van the SAC-SJC engineer back to SJC if they had to get the engineer back to SJC. Or...

    Free upgrades?

I got moved to an H room once on the Buider. The wall heat in my roomette was running away uncontrollably and it was like being in a toaster. On the other hand, the heat in the H room had failed. The attendant gave me a choice and I chose the H with extra blankets (it was December and around...

FTW has checked baggage and baggage storage service, so you can day check your carry ons with them. There is a $10/bag charge for it.

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H2

Yeah, probably, though I'd think there would have to be some kind of standardized accounting for cafe items provided to sleeper pax in lieu of Flex. Possibly crews that won't just don't want to go to trouble of accounting for it🤷‍♂️

ARROW almost certainly couldn't handle that. One thing to be thankful for that they're still using that creaking antique.

Specifically, here: https://www.amtrak.com/content/dam/projects/dotcom/english/public/documents/menus/routes/Flexible-Dining-Menu-0924.pdf And no children's menu choices. The salmon is a total sodium bomb, btw. The "glaze"/sauce tastes overwhelmingly of salt.

Border is just past that dam, the "American Diversion Dam" according to maps.

    Phase VII car repaint status

Amtrak itself is a pretty ragtag outfit, so that image fits its actual quality and reputation.
