    Amtrak Cascades Service discussion

Not sure if it’s extra but there’s a set running without a cab car again. It has engine 1406.

Yeah I highly doubt they would fix it considering the impending arrival of the airo's.

    Crescent Bag/Dorm

A few rooms have been sold to revenue passengers since summer 2022 ish. I rode in a bag dorm car that summer on the Cardinal.

    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Not sure what you mean. It's not stuck in Spokane. The set was able to go out as 8(19), which is running across Montana right now. They are doing the same thing today and tomorrow (but with no busses). Friday's 7/27 will go to Seattle/Portland, and will flip the same day so service will start...

    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Obviously. And I don’t think there was any risk of running 7/27 in the morning. But with the way the equipment works, it flips to 8/28 the same day, so if they canceled that then they would have a set stuck in Seattle (which would cancel the train from not just SEA-SPK, but also SPK-CHI)

    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Yeah I'm guessing that is one of the reasons why they decided to keep the Builder off the mountain pass last night. The cab car on that Talgo might be totaled...

    Coast Starlight discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Yeah, I'd probably bail at Oakland too. While Oakland and Emeryville are very close to each other, Oakland is where they address mechanical issues and restock food, which can delay its departure and subsequent arrival into Emeryville.

Coast Starlight train 11 service disruption Nov 1

It's pretty typical for them to refund the roomette accommodation in situations like these. Glad it all worked out.

Fare for Roomettes: how do they change over time?

https://www.amtraktrains.com/threads/fare-buckets-discussion-2023-q4-2024.86129/page-11 This thread is your friend. It’s all supply and demand. Typically, 11 months out is not the best time to book. Fares are generally high 11 months out. The best time is 4-6 months before departure. If...

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

So they basically did a soft launch.. among other things, I’m curious if this train had traditional dining or not 🤔

    Roomette reservation change question

A couple things. 1) Amtrak agents vary in experience. Typically you will get the best customer service if you call the Amtrak Guest Rewards number (1-800-307-5000). This is different from the typical Amtrak reservations number (‘1-800-USA-RAIL’). 2) To board at a later station they will have...

    November 40% Flash Sale

I have had no problem using the sale. Haven’t had to do anything special. One weird thing about this sale is that it’s not valid when boarding on a Friday or Sunday. Also, in the past, there has been limited inventory of sale fares per each train. I’m not sure if that’s the case with this sale.

    Traveling on the Coast Starlight

Transdorm is running, but recently it’s been using the 32 car line, with a dedicated attendant.

They are available on a first come first serve basis upon boarding. Since you are boarding at the terminal station (Portland) you should be able to snag one pretty easily.

With the way the current equipment rotations work, it is impossible to have a Talgo to Eugene on every train, every day.

    Chicago Metropolitan Lounge re-entry?

Yes, you can enter as many times as you’d like as long as you have a same day sleeper ticket (which you do for both days). The first time you check in, the lounge attendant will give you a wristband for the day to make the re entry process faster.

They all have power outlets at the seats. On the horizons they are next to the window, and on the Talgos they are either in between seats (under the arm rest) or under the seat.
