    Tier status extended/bumped

As long as you earned the status during last year, I would expect it to renew at the end of February. It seems like this week has just been status upgrades (for people who might not have earned enough TPQs to make it to the next tier).

    Amtrak pricing

It's confusing. "only x rooms available" really means "Only x rooms available at this price" Looking at this sheet, You can better understand the prices and how they vary. (for the Silver Services, look at the "R" column for the row titled "Silver Star & Met")...

    Upgrade/Companion/Lounge Coupons: seeking, available, questions

Not sure which train you are riding, but buisness class does not automatically grant you lounge access at WAS. You need to have a acela first class ticket, sleeper, or lounge pass to gain access at that lounge.

    Texas Eagle discussion

I’ve never had anyone check the size of my carry on bags on Amtrak before.

    Phone Support Hold time

That is a very wait for AGR. The longest I’ve had to wait in recent months is 30 minutes. Winter storms out east today so there probably were a lot of upset passengers calling over cancelations. Also, I think the call center is out on the east coast so that might have affected their staff they...

    Amtrak Price Tracking Tool

I just noticed that Google has seemed to add a plug-in to track the fares of Amtrak trains! Doing a quick Google search with the keyword "Book trains between Portland and Seattle" I immediately get a page with all of the various trains! I tried it for a couple different city pairs. The tool...

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars (2022-2023)

I believe the Texas Eagle is still running with one sleeping car. Highly doubt that will cut it back beyond that.

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

Sorry to jump behind here, but Amtrak's service standards manual specifically mentions that communal seating is optional. There are several pages in the service standards manual (which is publically accessible through FOIA) that outline these policies. Specially, it says (when taking...

VIA Rail Canadian and the Canadians

I think it’s usually oriented to where berths are towards the front of the car. I don’t follow this route close enough to know if it’s 100% always like that or not.

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars (2022-2023)

The 32 is being ran daily on the zephyr this winter, so its unlikely they will drop it. There are only 10 bedrooms for sale on the entire train, so the odds of getting an upgrade to one are pretty low. There has to be a few rooms available at the last minute for bidup to work.

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

Every time I have been there (about 5 times), they have used the conference room as a storage room.

VIA Rail Canadian and the Canadians

What’s the baggage situation on the Canadian? Going to be taking it for the first time in a cabin for 2. I’ve heard many people checking their bag and bringing on a day bag. However, from what I can tell from videos online, this type of room has a baggage cubby above the bathroom. Is this space...

    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Wow now this is weird. Just did two back-to-back searches for the same train. In particular, I searched Northbound Coast Starlight #14 (originating 1/14/2024) from EMY-PDX and SAC-PDX. With the origin set at SAC, it said roomettes and bedrooms were sold out (only a family room available)...

    Amtrak Cascades Service discussion

Talgos top out at 272 (230 coach, 42 business) Horizons (with their current 3 coach + BC/Cafe configuration) top out at 218 (204 coach, 14 business)

    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Yeah it probably wouldn’t be too hard to get off early, but going the other way, by getting on ‘late’ you might get marked as a no-show

    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Just did a back to back search to test this out. Doing the test for 11 months out. 11/18/2024 - PDX-SAC is 393/810 (BR)/981(FB) 11/18/2024 - EUG-SAC is $560/$956(FB)/$1170(BR) So over $350 more to travel in a bedroom on a slightly shorter segment. So it seems as if they are pricing this...

    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I noticed that as well on the starlight. It seems to regularly cost MORE to take the Starlight from SAC to EUG than it does to take it from SAC to PDX (even though the ride to PDX is almost 3 hours longer than if you were to get off at Eugene). However, since many of the "long-haul" passengers...
